Billy Sharp attacked

To be fair disorder at football matches isn't anything new, in fact it's just a case of rising again after the peak in the 70's.

And it's been rising for years, but not really publicised, until the last few years. Banning orders are often criticised but absolutely necessary in my view.
And seal the pitch once people encroach on it. Catch as many of them as you can and give them banning orders.
Just about everyone apart from the Scrotes and their parents are sick to the back teeth of it.

Yes but it's not an excuse. The same people would also get wound up in the pub or if someone looks at them in the wrong way. Getting tense, no matter what the provocation, is no excuse for violence. To lay part of the blame on Heckingbottom is wrong.
Agree it’s no excuse. The “fan” is completely in the wrong. Hope they throw the book at him. There’s no justification for his actions at all. I just don’t think Heckingbottom helped by doing what he did.

With those guys in a pub who’d batter you for looking at them the wrong way, what’s the solution? Personally I don’t want to get battered. So I make sure I don’t look at them the wrong way. It’s sad that I have to do it. I can’t stand that type of person. They’re the problem not me.

But I’m not going to wind them up. That would be stupid. Like Heckingbottom last night in my opinion.

I have a 17 year old daughter. When she goes out she wears what she wants.

However am I wrong to tell her to make sure she stays in a group? Not to walk alone at night down a dark alley? What kind of parent would I be if I didn’t have that conversation with her? It’s sad but that’s reality.

I get the point you are making. I’m not blaming victims here, honestly, just looking at provocations even if they make no sense to most of us.

With the Billy Sharp situation, he did nothing wrong. Period. But these atmospheres get tense when crowds get wound up, rightly or wrongly.
Was having a discussion about this the other day, particularly the fact that not wanting to indulge in victim blaming doesn't mean you wouldn't want to send your kids out without good advice.

Best I could come up with was that at an individual level, it's perfectly OK and sensible to say as much, but if authority figures start issuing that as general guidance for everyone, that can **** off as it's an abdication of responsibility.

I have been in meetings with fans from other Championship clubs through the season and right through the campaign the Forest fan rep has been pointing the finger at terrible behaviour from some of his own fans and appealing for help. Whilst there has definitely been worsening behaviour throughout the Championship and football as a whole, Forest seems to have been a real hotspot and particularly of Forest fan on Forest fan. Home and away, they behave appallingly in the concourses, they steal seats that are closer to the opposition fans and force the ticket holders elsewhere, they clog the stairways and bring alcohol into the stands and take drugs in groups. I have heard report after report. Similar to what many reported from our last match away at Preston. As a supporter forum we want to tackle this and get all the supporters behind this, stop flares, particularly in concourses, stop groups pushing others out of their seats. If they have to be turfed out of stands for being aggressive to other fans etc then we need everyone to understand why? Not to rush to the defence of supporters that have been abusing their own fans. This behaviour is unacceptable and now we can see where it all can lead to.
When they're behaving this way, and I'm sure it happens at Boro too, it's the time for life time bans.

Clubs/police have let fans get away with being offensive leading to disrespect of opposition fans, you read it on here all of the time.

You can see in the ground who is there to goad away fans, eject them immediately and ban them.

Saw a video in slow motion and it shows the man head butted him when he hit him. He didn’t just barge into him

This isn’t just a banning order , it’s jail time
Yep, clear case of ABH, potentially GBH at a push but I don't think so personally.

Given the circumstances I think this will be an (albeit infrequent) case of "if it had happened on the street..." in terms of the sentencing.

There’s way too many fans who just want to wind up.

I am in the Midlands so only usually go to games near me. At Birmingham recently the majority of the chants were nothing to do with the Boro or the game.

“You’re just a **** Aston Villa”.
“Your ground’s a **** hole”.

I don’t get it. Cheer on your own team, but what’s the point of the insults? Don’t understand how people feel better about themselves by doing it.

There is nothing that players/managers can legally do during a game of football that can justify what this idiot has done.

If you can't take being part of a 30,000 crowd of people who are being wound up by a footballer without resorting to violence then perhaps you shouldn't be going to games.
also there is an enormous difference between shushing the crown and unprovoked assault, a huge difference

Felt sick when I seen that video. The speed he was going, and catching Sharp so unaware, what a F***ing coward.

Got a lot of time for Sharp. I was at that Donny away game when he scored after losing his son, and the standing ovation he got was genuinely moving. For somebody to do that to anybody last night is unforgivable, let alone someone who comes across as great a guy as Sharp.

McBurnie has form for this though? Sure there was video of him knocking someone out in the street a while back?

Not condoning it all but if I had to pick one Sheff U player who would be involved it's him.

Absolutely no 'direct correlation' between football hooligans and stone Island. I mean none at all.

I should maybe have said CP Company😉

I’m yet to see any stone island wearing football hooligan throw a punch, just posturing.

CP though, those the proper lads 🤣

So how come the stewards at Middlesbrough didn’t attempt to stop any of the recent pitch incursions at the Riverside, is it policy to just let them get on with it???

Perhaps they do stop some? Come on there are Stewards what every ten yards along the touchline? Twenty yards? A kid stand behind the barrier, there is literally nothing and no one stop him entering the pitch if he is a few yards from a Steward.

Yes but when they do get on they are literally left to just do what they want to do, the stewards remain static, what if one had a knife???

There are not enough stewards this season to truly cover the whole perimeter - it is a problem at Boro and nationally. Everyone had to get regular employment if they could in the Covid Years.
Most of those pitch invaders we saw at the Riverside were young kids. Wouldn't the stewards have to be mindful of how physical they can be? But they would be in the ground with parents/guardians - when that parent who filmed his kid got a life ban that would surely send out a message to many others, wouldn't it?

Looking at the sentencing guidelines for ABH if it was classed as a 2B offence starting point 36 weeks custody up to 18 months.

Level of injury, effect on victim and any previous will all effect sentence. I’m sure the judge will be minded of the circumstances of the offence and reflect that in the sentence.

Was anything done following the Wayne Rooney selfie?

I’m assuming nothing was?

It was only when the additional time was added on for the Stoke game and goal, MFC deemed it wasn’t acceptable? If it was never acceptable, why wasn’t it nipped in the bud for the Wayne Rooney selfie?
