Bill Gates Dementia

Good player was Bill! I didn't realise he had dementia. Didn't he live abroad?

He got a great Testimonial V Leeds with a very big crowd - think it was 4-4 - I'm sure Erimus can confirm this!

Just watched superb interview regarding Bill Gates ex Boro player and his dementia on GB News. His wife talked brilliantly about the condition and what needs to be done now.Lovely to see a framed Boro shirt on their wall number 5.
He’s a lovely gent, I didn’t know he was suffering from dementia 🙁.

Yeah 4 - 4 with a big crowd I went to it, from memory I think it was around 39k but could be wrong but over 35k anyway

Between 1961 to 1974, he made 328 appearences, 7 as sub, scoring 12 goals

Making his debut away to Luton on the 27th September 1961 in a 3-2 defeat, his final Boro appearence he wore the No12 shirt away to Hull City in a 3-1 win on the 16th February 1974, replacing Willie maddren in the 2nd half

He was registered No423 & throughout his Boro career he wore No's 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 12

IIRC, Brian Kidd broke his jaw in one of the many FAC ties we had with Man Utd in the early 70's, I can check later to see if its correct

Another question for Erimus.

In these times of 'well paid' footballers it got me thinking as to how far we have to go back to find the last Boro player awarded a testimonial? Who and when?

I remember the game, it was a thriller, but can't remember him coming on.

Great crowd for his testimonial, more than we'd had in the ground for most of the season ((officially only).

Gonna be a damp squid here. Bill got a great crowd and a lot of money which set up for life in the Cayman islands. The big crowd was due to us winning promotion and everyone was on a massive high.
By contrast I think John Hickton only got around 11000 . A much more popular player.

Gordon McQueen played for Leeds that night and he got some real stick all match.

This Dementure / Football link case is getting stronger by the day.

Against Borrussia Dortmund. Dreadful 0-0 but their fans we're entertaining from what I remember
