Big hitters missing from starting line up but we looked just as good

3 key players from the spine of side fro last season were out or missing from the starting 11 and we looked just as solid and kept our shape pattern of play up.

Mcgree Lenihan howson.

Shows the work carrick has put into the whole squad to be able to perform like that with three key players not starting.

I’ve said it before but I always thought Lenihan made more mistakes than a lot of people realised. How many clean sheets have we had without him now?

That said, a functioning midfield that keeps the ball better and doesn’t lose it in dangerous areas is a better form of defence than we’ve had over the start of the season. So that’s also helped.

McGree will improve our first eleven but I think Howson is in the process of being phase out of the midfield, as was the plan.

I'd throw Lewis o brien into that also, will be a regular starter when fit

McNair is looking more and more like the Warnock version.

Makes sense given he's out of contract at the end of the season (won't be long before accusations of "he's just playing for his next contract" start).

Shame, but I can't see us matching his current deal, but if he continues to have a decent season someone else inevitably will.

Lenihan and Fry just haven't really clicked as a partnership. Definitely didn't help where, as a team, we were all over the place early season. Pretty much everyone looked bad.

Now we are keeping possession, looking dangerous, look organised and fluent.....takes a massive amount of pressure off the defence.

Wouldn't have any qualms Lenihan coming back into the team, but can only be down to McNair being injured or losing form completely.
