Big Gig for Amelia Coburn next March

Paul Weller has said her Album is one of the best things he has heard this year.
Amelia posted the comments with a pic of her bedroom wall as a child (not that long ago)……
With a Jam album cover on the bedroom wall

Nice that

I remember seeing her perform in Costa Coffee in Guisborough, probably would have been 10 years ago.

She did a ukulele cover of Made of Stone by the Stone Roses and Anarchy in the UK. I could see then that she had somethng about her and would go far.

Seeing her in a couple of weeks in Hackney (nice way to finish my gigging season off)

Just had a look at her tour dates and she plays Exeter Phoenix on the the 1st Feb as support to another act, when I looked on their page to see what they say , it sounds like they have copied directly from the blurb sent from her agent without editing it:-

"Amelia Coburn
Amelia Coburn has come through the English Folk Expo mentoring scheme released her debut album, Between The Moon And The Milkman, earlier this year. It was produced by Bill Ryder Jones of the Coral and has been generally pretty well received.

Amelia has either been played, or played live on BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 Music. She’s had a bunch of decent press too from Clash magazine through to Shindig

Amelia’s own tour earlier in 2024 did pretty well in small venues in its own right so please can you make sure to include her on all promo material, ticketing and event pages – including facebook events, etc."

Saw her last night
Firstly - the venue….
Paper Dressed Vintsge, Hackney
It’s a vintage clothes shop with a bar at the back of a small ground floor.
At 7 the clothes racks get moved away and it’s a public bar - with beer garden out the back too.
The men’s clothes upstairs gets moved for a small stage. About 150 capacity.
You couldn’t get more East London if you tried.

Support act - Teenage Waitress. Worth a listen. Think early squeeze.

Amelia and her band - just sensational. Played most of the Album plus a couple of excelllent new songs.
Her voice is beautiful - she has a great range, has loads of energy, fun and holds an audience.
Oh - and what a musician….. with a baritone ukulele and something else that I don’t know 😳

It was a real privilege to see her in such an intimate venue.

She needs a bit of a break to get to the next level and with likes of Paul Weller shouting about her - you never know.

It was also lovely meeting a member of the fmttm fraternity for the first time.

Is that new East London or old East London? ;)

After your recommendation, I listened to Coburn and found some of her songs from the album a hard listen and others I liked. There is no doubt she's got talent and will go places but I could imagine she's not everyone's cup of tea.

The venue sounds idyllic and from what I have listened to Coburn it seems suited to her needs at this moment in time. As you say, she just needs the next big break and hopefully, the likes of Weller can guide her with that.

Oh, definitely the new East London
My son looks the part…

Thankfully

Saw something online about Amelia and realised that I knew her Dad when we were younger. Ive not listened to much new music since I hit my 60s but thought I would give her a listen.
What a voice, absolutely loved listening to her.

Great voice and I think she's different too in the way Kate Bush was/is different. Superb musician.
Does a smashing cover of Down in the tubestation at midnight.
