Best XI Boro players playing in their prime

Basically, pick a Boro player based on when they were in their prime, not based on their Boro career.

For example, Gazza based on when he was at Spurs.

...........................................Given............................................

...............Pallister.....Southgate....Woodgate...........

Reiziger..................................................................Ziege

................Mendieta....Robson......Gazza..................

.......................................Juninho........................................

.......................................Viduka.........................................

I think boksic in his pomp deserves a shout as would Branco ( though not for his spell with us)

Resisting the urge to state the 1974/75 team en masse, I would offer

Platt

Craggs
Maddren
Southgate
Ziege

Robson
Souness

Cochrane
Juninho
Armstrong

Viduka (sorry big John)

Subs
Schwarzer
Reizeger
Cooper
Pearson
Murdoch
Boksic
Mannion

Agree with Zorro (Boksic) but as good as he was for us, I'd have a younger European cup winning Bobby Murdoch in midfield for us in a heartbeat.

You wouldn't even have Gazza or Mendieta on the bench?

Absolutely not, no. Personally, I do not understand the love in some have with Mendieta. I suspect Lazio regretted buying him. He did well at Valencia, but for me was overrated. At Boro he was a curates egg. Gazza was an individual talent. He was no George Best though. I would definitely have a team player like Murdoch in the squad who could land the ball on a sixpence without looking over a mercurial talent like Gazza. Just my opinion though Parmoboy.

Murdoch is an absolute must for me. He was considered well past it when we signed him, but as an 11 year old school player I'd never seen anything like him before. There isn't a lot of Celtic coverage, but he was some player between 65- 69.

Jeez we've had some talent over the years haven't we? Sadly none within the last 5 years? 10 years? The good times will return, have faith.

How consistent was Viduka for us? I can only really remember how amazing he could be when he was really on his game. The run in to the Uefa Cup Final season he was unplayable. But wasn't he hit and miss a lot of the time, and often look disinterested?

I would go with this:

———————Schwarzer

————Woodgate———Southgate

Geremi————Souness——————Zeige

————Robson————Mendieta

———————-Juninho

—————Boksic———Viduka

Mannion and camsell, too long ago, dare say nobody around now watched them play. Clough was a second division striker
