Best goal scored against boro

The first goal which sprang to my mind, yet I couldn't remember the name of the Chelsea player or final scoreline to look it up.

I always think back to this goal when asked the difference between the Championship and PL: in the highest tier, you concede far more goals where you can only say "Fair enough, that was a piece of quality." In the Championship, you list the men out of position, shirking challenges and ball watching.

Aye, probably a fair point, and Wilshere especially showed himself up with that Ramirez goal.

I think it's partly because I found Payet really unlikeable, so the hype the goal created annoyed me when I saw so many of our players failing to do the basics during it.
Yeah he wasn’t a likeable character. But as far as solo runs go it was a pretty good goal. I would probably agree though a fantastic volley from 35 yards or something arguably takes more skill and looks better if it goes in (assuming the keeper isn’t at fault 😁).

They were like modern football but 25 years ahead of its time. Funny how United won more because they had the mentality but they weren’t as flashy as that Arsenal team, and when they were on song they were ridiculously good.

Henry, Bergkamp (!), Overmars, Vieira and Petit, Kanu, Anelka and that old school defence of Tony Adams, Keown, Dixon, Winterburn and Seaman. Then they added a young Ashley Cole and a very young Cesc Fabregas, who was one of the best players in the league aged 18.

Seriously good team that. I swear if they were playing today they’d still be winning leagues or thereabouts, that was a new style of football.

1-6
They were a team full of players who were athletes as well as being technical. Most decent players back then were one or the other. Most of the British lot were still going out and getting hammered all the time, eating whatever they wanted and then jogging around in training and not really working hard. Wenger changed all that and he could have had mediocre players competing at the top with just that mentality change but then they also added top quality players. They were just stronger, faster and more skilful than everyone else. Other teams caught up eventually but they were the pioneers. These days everyone is an athlete. It's not good enough to just be good technically because someone else is just as good but more athletic, you can't just be fast either because everyone is fast but the best players are fast and technically good.

We saw the change in our own squad. Players like Ravanelli had much higher standards than the British based players. He couldn't set the mentality for the team on his own like Wenger could being in charge but he definitely gave Gibson ideas about the facilities etc. and I'm sure some players took it on board and agreed with him.

It grates to say it, but a goal scored by Allan Clarke by Leeds against us at AP around 74 was brilliant. Think it was runner up in Goal if the Season on MOTD.

My 18th birthday February 1975, it grates on me too. It was on MOTD, and the Boro crowd responded with "you're gonna get your f@@king heads kicked in ".....🤣
