Benidorm Curfew/Spanish Lockdown.

The Spanish government has said that after your brief solitary walk with your dogs you have to sanitise their paws straight afterwards. My understanding is that this is due to the risk of them having contact with an infected surface of some sort.

Here is a google translation...

Driving in your vehicle in company already carries fines of up to 1,000 euros

The Royal Decree is modified and affects how to get around by car during the crisis

Starting this Thursday, March 19, during the state of alarm, you will only be able to drive alone. Going with a companion may carry a penalty. This is reflected in the modification that the Government has made in Royal Decree RD 463/20, as pointed out by Cadena SER.

Therefore, movements with more than one person inside the vehicle are prohibited. The agents of the authority have the order to put sanctions from 300 euros to 1,000 euros. This is stated in Royal Decree RD 463/20 modified by the Government.

The movement must be carried out individually, except when accompanying children, the elderly, dependents who have some type of disability, or a reason that is really justified.

With guidance from the local authorities on how to do it. My wife and I are today looking to drive together to pick up a second car we had on order. Just a 10 minute drive away.

We paid them all of the cost of it last Friday. Just before the lock down.

I asked them for the cash back (as all businesses are at risk of failing now). I said I would buy the car as soon as I was able to take possession of it (it was already with them). However I did not want to leave them in possession of my money and the car. They asked us to make arrangements to collect the car. To help their business with their cash flow.

We have got a package of papers recommended to us by someone from the local council. Hopefully the police will accept this information.

If we have them we have to wear glasses, masks and gloves while sitting in the car (we only have one pair of gloves that fit my wife). We also have to sit diagonally in the car. With the passenger in the rear seat on the opposite side to the driver.

We have also had to agree with the company to do the handover keeping to the 2m separation rule. So we are trying to minimise risk.

This gives the company help with cash flow. It gives us a second car to use temporarily if our old one breaks down.

In the slightly longer term we plan to sell the old car reasonably soon if we can. Once the garage we want to sell it to (40 minutes drive away) is open for business again - who knows when.

We pay our tax bill for 2019 later this year. We are hoping we can use the sale of the old car to pay some of our tax bill. If not we will be very much at the mercy of exchange rates.

Very much a first world problem.

Today´s latest stuff from over here.

I write a blog for our local community. As we have a lot of people from all around Europe who have property in our town. The blog helps these people feel part of our transient community.

Local Car Tax

I understand that fewer people will be in Almerimar in the coming weeks and months. So they may not be here to receive their annual bill for local car tax and pay it.

I have just been told the following information on this subject:

"The car tax hasn't gone up since last year. So anyone that hasn't got this year's receipt because they are not here can pay the same amount as last year. The account details are listed on the receipt from last year."

Dog Walking

I am getting conflicting information about how far from your home you can walk your dog. I have asked if there is some clear official information about this. As a couple of people have given me different stories on this issue.

My understanding is that you can only take your dog out to "do it's business". Not take it for a general walk. The suggestion I have been given is that people should use their common sense in this matter.

Also, only one person can accompany the dog.

Plus, please note that you are supposed to sanitise the paws (pads) of the dogs after it has been out.

Blimey. I had no idea I was supposed to drive to work with a mask on!!!

In France we re been told that we can only walk in a 1km radius from your house. They ve had to close the beaches as too many people were going.

Reading about service stations, resaurants, etc how are truck drivers managing?

Did you have the applause for the medical people the last 2 nights where you are? It was brilliant to hear it in Jaén - and join in.
The local parish council are trying to get the same thing going here. They are asking people to play the song below at 20:00 every night and clap along. I guess we will see whether it works or not.

We are having trouble buying masks. For those having the same problems here is a video of how to make them yourself. I have added some notes from the video below.

- From the University of Hong Kong Shenzen Hospital
- Claimed to achieve 90% of the filtering functions of surgical masks
- Surgical masks are preferable in hospitals or clinics

Materials

Kitchen paper; tissues; 4 rubber bands; hole punch; 5cm wide paper masking tape; 2 bulldog clips; scissors; 1 plastic coated wire; pair of glasses; plastic file folder.

Method

1. Sanitise your hands and the tools thoroughly.
2. Place one piece of kitchen roll on top of another.
3. Place one tissue on top of the kitchen paper.
4. Cut the pile of paper in half.
5. Tape both side with the masking tape.
6. Punch two holes on each sealed sides.
7. Tape a plastic coated wire onto the kitchen paper side.
8. Tie the 4 rubber bands through the 4 holes.
9. Cut the plastic file folder in half.
10. Clip the plastic sheet onto the glasses with a bulldog clip each side.

A start. We heard clapping in the marina. Plus a couple of neighbours came out and waved.

Just heard from the missus on her trip to Carrefour. All of the "non-essential" sections of the shop are now closed off. I guess that allows the supply chain to focus on the essentials. Plus should reduce the number of people going up there for a wander round.

I was in Mercadona yesterday and it was fully stocked apart from fresh milk - had to pop next door to SuperSol for that. No panic buying and people taking everything in their stride ...

.... and yes, we have the 8pm "applause" each evening - Dona Malaguena gets enthusiastically involved from our terrace

Looks like you are in the hardest hit part of Andalucía. Keep safe.
