Be careful and be sensible

I have just found out a double jabbed friend of my uncle with no underlying health conditions this morning died of covid. He was 51 years old. Protect yourselves and your families everybody.
Sorry to hear that. I appreciate you letting us know, I hope everyone does take things cautiously but i fear a section of society will do what the hell they want sadly and not care a jot about others. Wembley has already shown that anyway.

Sorry to hear about that. Sad news.

Long covid is a potentially big issue as well.

Another reason for trying to keep safe. In difficult circumstances in England.

I must admit for ages I thought it was a load of rubbish, until things started happening closer to home. I think a sensible approach is still needed for the foreseeable.

Very sad to hear of your loss but the fact are that he was hugely unlucky there have been only a really small percentage of deaths in people of his age or younger where there were no known pre existing conditions

Sorry to here this. I have to admit this whole double jabbed thing had put me into a false sense of security.

I've had it a few months now and pretty much eased down my guard thinking 'I'm now fine'. Everyday I read or speak to someone who knows someone who's double jabbed and still got it.

My parents are 78 and 82 and go about like they are now 'immune' after a double jab. I keep telling them but it's in one ear and out the other as they are just sick of being reculeses. They have people round all the time after nearly a year of not seeing anyone. It's slightly worrying due to ages and the fact they are purely relying on the vaccine working.

Its a tricky one for older people I guess. My dad is very cautious, my father in law is more about living his life, for however longer he has. They are both 87.

Just to follow up on my long covid comment earlier....

A friend of mine was recently in hospital for some time with a heart problem.

In the bed next to him was a man in his early 60s. He could hardly move. His wife was by the side of his bed. Helping him do everything.

My friend thought he must of had a stroke or something like that. In a discussion with the wife he found out that the guy was suffering from long covid. Previously he had been a very active, normal 60+ year old. Now he had been confined to bed, is in pain all of the time and cannot do just about anything.

This has made me think about covid restrictions in a different way. I would not wish that sort of situation on anyone.

Sorry to read this.
I’m genuinely concerned with the current government stance. It is almost like they are actively giving people advice designed to get as many infected as quickly as possible, to get the peak through as fast as possible. They admit themselves that there are many unknowns.
The vast majority of credible scientists, public health experts and medical professionals have concerns and it really would seem like the population of the U.K. is being used for a massive experiment.
Fingers crossed we are close to the herd immunity threshold and cases peak soon and start to come back down.

Trying to find a positive, I think most of those who will do away with masks and social distancing come the 19th have probably already done so, some time ago, so hopefully the 19th won’t actually see too much behavioural change. I believe the majority will actually maintain mask wearing and social distancing. The misdirected, naive, overconfident, ill informed (or wrongly informed, manipulated by self proclaimed libertarians on social media) and the downright selfish and inconsiderate will not.

My major worry is the impact nightclubs will have….. Look at what happened in the Netherlands and their recent rowing back on lifting restrictions…

SAGE have said they don't expect am autumn peak like anything we've seen previously.
Let's hope they are right Randy. I think with a lot of folks its just one **** up after another by the government so it's difficult to accept a lot of what you hear. Lots of people probably believe that SAGE has been politicized, which it certainly was early on until they saw the damage that was being done to their reputations and the country.

Also why is the only bloody language on here American English - there is no such thing.

I watched that Panorama programme on long Covid last night - extremely worrying and frightening.

I feel that there is very limited awareness about it.

A practical change for me is when walking in the street here. If nobody is in view I have my mask off. I make a point of getting my mask on again before anyone gets within 5 metres of me.

Luckily we have good social distancing and mask wearing rules when indoors.

My wife asked me about masks yesterday. I said I would wear mine in shops and enclosed spaces but probably won't bother in the local. The 10 feet from the door to the table won't help anyone.

If I have to commute into london, I will wear a mask if the train and tubes are packed. I probably wont bother if I am sitting in an empty rail carriage.
