This is incredible they are unearthing the wreckage of a spitfire that crashed in 1941 In Southern Ireland.

the pilot bailed out to safety so there were no casualties.

But it’s like a time capsule to see the undercarriage intact and the stamp merlin supermarine stamped on the engine.

fascinating.

I have a friend from Teesside engaged in historic crash sites in America as a forensic archaeologist.
Glad there are no bodies involved - but I find 20th century archaeology fascinating. It seems counter-intuitive that we can find out anything that is not recorded in countless documents and photos etc and yet it always sheds new light and opens up things in a very dramatic and even emotional way. One day we will get to dig the Holgate again - knocked back most recently due to the VIRUS would you believe.

They also did a dive of the Irish coast and showed a complete wreck of a U-boat pretty much intact just laying there. Like it’s frozen in time.

It must be fascinating to see things like this unearthed before your eyes.
