Battle of the Sh1thouses

You don't need to be a football person to know that if you are falling on your **** you put your arms down to break your fall, you just need to be someone who's fallen on their **** before.

VAR is terrible in this competition. After they did so well at the euros by virtually ignoring it.

Penalty all day long under current rules. Fernandes nutmegs him and is clean through on goal if ball doesn’t hit his hand.
5 years ago never a penalty but will always be given now.
Ref should not have needed VAR, but then he did miss everything else all night long.

I wonder if it would have been given anywhere else on the pitch.

easy handball to give at the half way line.

Other than putting his hand up his ass where does he put it when falling backwards, it's a natural reaction. If he intentionally scupped the ball away then yes.

Terrible decision for the penalty again, what is the point in refs going to the screen anyway? They never stick to their own decision, they may as well just say VAR has given it.

I'm at the point now where I just don't know the laws. Watching and playing the game for over half a century and fukk knows. Watmore's goal against United ball hits his hand - not a handball. This one is a handball. Neither deliberate. Anyone absolutely certain what the rules say? Anyone?

Only if you agree he put his hand there to support himself when falling. VAR and the referee clearly didn’t think that, hence penalty is awarded.

I think it takes a brave ref to be told to take a look at the monitor and then not give a penalty.

Especially if he thinks it might affect his chances of refereeing more games later in the tournament, or in future tournaments.

If he was on the goal line sliding like that and saved it with his hand would you give a pen?

That may come under another rule mind.

Intent doesn't come into it anymore.
Thats what is wrong with the law, years ago referee only had one decision to make, did the offender deliberately handle the ball.
They took that out of the rules and now we have this **** show.

It was the ref that gave the pen not the VAR, he was told to have a look and decided his course of action and not a common sense one.
