Bashar al-Assad - Is His Time Up?

He went Moscow, Tehran, Abu Dhabi and back to Moscow,. Apparently he was being tracked by the "West".

The BBC said Russia uses a port in Syria and an airfield, which I would assume they are going to vacate, unless Syria splits into ethnic regions over the next 12 months.

The current largest power grouping amongst the rebels, according to the BBC were officially linked to Al-Qaeda from 2011 to 2016. Wikipedia describes Al Qaeda as:

Al-Qaeda (/ælˈkaɪ(ə)də/ ; Arabic: القاعدة, romanized: al-Qāʿidah, lit. 'the Base', IPA: [alˈqaː.ʕi.da]) is a pan-Islamist militant organization led by Sunni jihadists who self-identify as a vanguard spearheading a global Islamist revolution to unite the Muslim world under a supra-national Islamic caliphate.[

The leader of this group says he is going to rule Syria for all the differing types of Syrians. Its certainly going to be interesting how this turns out.

The Israelis have already taken some of Syria - in the name of defence of course.

UK currently mulling over which terrorists to align with and which ones to now designate non terrorists .

The cynic in me wonders about Isreal / western involvement, they will no doubt as you say have their eyes on more land to create a 'buffer zone'

I always find putting myself in others shoes to be helpful here. In this case, how much of a 'buffer zone' would I regard as being plenty between Teesside and an unregulated (internationally) bunch of Muslim militias designated as terrorists by (checks latest list) the US State Department and the UK Home Office? 😀 The Syrians on Teesside we've been helping for the last 10 years or so would probably be able to provide helpful guidance on how safe to feel now they've got access to loads more weapons...

Geopolitics. If you have five minutes give the "The End?" thread a read. It goes into a bit of detail about the whats and whys.

Essentially, anything that destabilises Russia is a current "good". No doubt we'll be going to war with these "rebels" in a decade or so.
1 year maximum before they become a worse problem than what was replaced, expect lots of carpet bombing of civilian populations as a result by sponsors of this takeover

“Extended” the buffer zone apparently, while bombing three army bases and various other military targets. Meanwhile Turkey making its moves, and Iran losing out.
