Barry Coppinger quits a PCC

His time was up long ago... he was meant to stand down in May but COVID has delayed it (he should have been removed years ago.)

He is the last rotten egg from the old school authority.

Hopefully now once he goes a full investigation can be held into his dealings and what has gone on inside Cleveland Police... then it can be followed with charges.

Lots of idiots will make comment about someone they have never met and have no idea of what's been going on. I know Barry personally, and I'll tell you this, he is one of the most caring thoughtful men I have ever met, he is very considered and cares deeply about the downtrodden and least well off. In my opinion there is not a dishonest bone in his body. Hope he enjoys his retirement he deserves it.

He might be a nice bloke Lodger... I have met him twice and can say he was pleasant... But he take incompetence to a whole new level.

He has overseen years of systematic failures within CP. The force has roleD from one crisis to another and suffered years of abuse by top level managers and yet has been untouchable....

Begs the question why

Cleveland Police should be completely taken apart and built again.

Totally with you in that in the 20 times or so I've had dealings with him. Incredibly supportive of volunteer groups.

Fully agree

One of the smallest forces in the UK but has the worst reputation.

should split it down the old county lines and south of the river to North Yorks and North of river to Durham... by comparison two of the best forces in the country.
 
Know Barry decent honest bloke. My mother never saw eye to eye with him when she was a councillor but that was mainly due to his position on Mallans Executive committee. She had no time to how Mallan ran roughshod over the Council using the Executive powers. Barry was the only one of here former council associates who came to her funeral. Agree with The Lodger above and I also hope he enjoys his retirement.

Had lots of nights out with him in our younger days. He used to love going to see bands hopefully will get time to again.
 
All coming out now... Chief Constable has written to the IOPC alleging unlawful activity.

He came in in late 2012, so let's call that 8 years.

The recent damning report and the special measures the force have been placed in to is on his watch so ultimately he should take a share of the responsibility, but his entire period in office has been during austerity and the cuts and resulting challenges on our very small force have been absolutely brutal. Guess what the majority of 'special measures' have mainly meant? More funding, more officers.

How is Cleveland police still in existence.

Lefty im not getting into an argument with you but your wrong.

He was in the old CPA well before his election to the PCC.

He has overseen scandal after scandal including:

Institutional racism
hacking of phones of Journalists and many others including ex coppers
paid out millions in compo to the above parties when it was unearthed
A revolving door of Chief Constables
failed to protect vulnerable people
Failed to act ethically
