The Duncan Watmore thread got me thinking about bargain basement players we've had in the modern era and was thinking about who'd be the best XI so here's my shockingly bad attempt. In terms of clarification when I say bargain basement it means not only academny / cheap / free transfers (below £500k say) but also modest wages. So the likes of JFH, Mendieta etc can't be included.
GK: Stephen Pears
LB: George Friend
CD: Dani Ayala
CD: Nigel Pearson
RB: Curtis Fleming
MF: Barry Robson
MF: Robbie Mustoe
MF: Grant Leadbitter
FW: Craig Hignett
ST: John Hendrie
ST: Bernie Slaven
Not a bad little first XI all told IMHO.
