Bands/Artists who should have been bigger than they were/are

Or are if they are still going. This is something I thought about during Goalscorers threads but didn’t want to run at same time. Some of the songs posted their got me thinking about this.

Everybody who likes music has a band/artist they love and when you listen to them you are mystified as to why they were not more successful. They could be one hit wonders but I am thinking of artists who fail to dent single or album charts.

Here is your chance to plug your more obscure acts and hopefully those looking at the post will check them outs further and may end up fans for life.

If you want to say why INHO they weren’t successful or just why you like them you can. Or just post a song or two. You are not restricted to posts but don’t post loads in a row by the same acts.

Here is a couple to start you off.

The Wildhearts have a big following and a great catalogue of songs, but never really hit the heights of some of their peers. Never going to have "hit singles" from their genre, but they would have sold out stadia had they not (frequently) gone of the rails.

Joy Division were never mainstream when they should have been. Us John Peel listeners in 1979/80 knew they were the bees knees.

When Ian Curtis died he obviously knocked them and maybe having yourself named after a Nazi WW2 brothel didn't help.

I always loved an album called “Odyssey Number Five” by Powderfinger when I was out in Oz. Never dented the charts here. I still listen to it now, it’s awesome.
