Bamburgh and Tynemouth named UK's best destinations

Hopefully too many people don't take note. Places in the North East and Scotland are generally much superior to those elsewhere, especially the South of England. I think the mugs will always look towards London and South Coast for a want of psychological relevance, which is a good thing really. It leaves the gems for the more well informed and those who can think for themselves. Let's hope it stays that way.

I don't think they'd get into my top ten, as nice as they are but it's all about personal preferences, these surveys and journalist choices are little more than advertising after being lobbied by those who will benefit from the reports.

Having travelled the entire GB coastline last september, I can say Bamburgh is rightfully high in the list.
Where is number 1 is really subjective. There were so many places that were fabulous around our coastline, but the weather, the tide level, the number of visitors all change every day and through the day, and a place feels different with it.
I love so very many parts of Cornwall and Pembrokeshire, but wouldn't want to be there in July and August. I never go to Whitby then either, but love the place.
Bamburgh and Northumberland is great anytime to me because it is never too busy, similarly Durness in Sutherland, The Gower and The Llyn.

The whole Northumbrian coast is glorious. I only recently visited Cambois for the first time. It has a bad rep because of its historical coal mining associations but the long beach is glorious - spotless and pretty much deserted. And at the end of it you can walk straight over to Charlton's pub (it's owned by Jack's son) and eat/drink in the sunshine.
