Balogun

If we get promoted next season then my preference for the main striker to sign is:
Archer > Gyokeres > Balogun > Simms

Balogun in particular likes to run down the left channel, same as Archer, and has proven he can finish.

I'm sure it has been discussed but first loan syndrome - young players rarely hit it off at the first one, it's the next one. As we are finding with Archer now (didn't do too bad at Preston but excelling now)

I didn’t mind Balogun, and just as he started finding his feet he was dropped never to return.

He didn’t suit Wilders style of play and was often played out of position.

No doubt he’s got quality so not surprised to see him standing out in Ligue 1, which in the main is a pretty shoite league.

Interesting to see what he does next season and where he ends up. He’s a level above most sides in Ligue 1 I think.

One of lifes great mysteries is why Connoly was in the team ahead of him. I though Balogun was a good player, but I would not be surprised if he would have felt a little hard done by about his time here.

Wasn’t it just

Exactly he’s going nowhere

Shameful how wilder put him and mr average in the same bracket
They were obviously looking to sell him because he's not ready for a team looking to win the league. I reckon they may look to loan him out to a Premier league team so that he either steps up for the next season or they get a good payday for him. Similar to Villa with Archer probably.

I thought Warnock's comments about Akpom were interesting. He talked about him not working hard enough. Thing is you know the one thing Akpom does is work hard. what was actually going on was that he was being asked to play as a target man and didn't know how to make it work.

For the last 9 games of the season, Wilder started Balogun 3 times and Connolly 3 times. Balogun scored once and assisted once; Connolly neither. (Sporar started 4, Watmore started 7). Basically, Wilder clearly didn't rate anyone other Watmore and didn't exactly rate him. During those last 9 games, the four forwards scored 2 goals between them. Balogun played the least but contributed the most.

Clearly the problem was Wilder. His one tactic seemed to be run his forwards into the ground and hope somebody else scored. Connolly is genuinely useless but the other three were perfectly capable forwards being horribly mismanaged. Like Warnock with Akpom, the problem was not the players, it was what they were being asked to do.

I actually think he'd prosper under Carrick as so many others in our squad have done.
The lad is clearly very talented and skilful though definitely not ideal for a high pressure team tactic that requires a bit of physicality.
His year in France could be the making of him.

He was totally unsuited to the Championship, rarely put a challenge in - not willing to put his foot in, go up for a header, seemed to actively avoid the physical stuff.
Disagree with that. Yes, he was a little unused to the physicality of the Championship but he was plainly talented. Yet Wilder persisted with the utterly useless Connolly, whose only goal that I can remember occurred when an opposition player deflected one of his misses into the net.

I say it every time the topic of Balogun comes up but I'll say it again. It was clear he had talent but his problem was that he had never played against adults. The step up from playing against kids to playing against adults is significant and it takes a bit of getting used to. I don't think his ability was a doubt and now he's had 18 months playing in the championship and Ligue 1 he'll be a different player and will be able to show his ability.
