Balogun starts for the US tonight v Germany

Hard to say of he’ll manage to improve the US team or if the US team will only end up bringing him down to their level. He’s definitely a big improvement on what they had but currently it’s maybe a bit of both.

You make it sound like the USA are dreadful.

USA for me have always been hardworking, athletic & well organised though lack creative team play with few if any individual creative or skillful players..

He certainly elevates the skill level, though they'll need many more than him..

As a team I compare them to Australia &:the Aussies have had some real top quality players in their squads, though not at the present time.

Both countries don't, yet, see the worlds game as their game, for now..

For years the us tried to emulate the South Americans in their style looking for Latin players with skill and pace etc but about 20years or so ago they changed completely and became obsessed in how Germany did it (with team
Work physicality etc )and ever since they have modelled themselves on Germany ( even recruiting klinnsmsnn) many mls stars now go to Germany first and last night the majority of the side had come through or were playing in Germany.

That’s why this friendly on US soil was so big for the us as Germany is the benchmark that they are aiming for.

“The U.S. won't demand the respect of the world if they are to beat Germany in a friendly on Saturday. Still, for many in this USMNT camp, Saturday's friendly is the perfect time to show how far they've come, and how far they have left to go.”

1v3 against one of the poorest German teams in decades ( they have a very high bar to measure against ) it would seem they are about Australia level..
