Bale to Wrexham

No I appreciate that but if, as you suggest, all he wants to do in life at a relatively young age of 33 is play golf and nothing much else seems to me to be a bit shallow. And certainly not “exciting “. What are his ambitions now in life? I would love to know. Maybe we will find out in Series 3 of Welcome to Wrexham. Maybe not. Who knows?
His 'ambition' for now may be to spend time with people he's spent so much of his life away from. Play golf and get better at it if it's a game he loves.

You don't have to be involved in football to enjoy life.

I am not convinced Bale wants to retire just yet - you’ve just described 55 + retirement life. I would like to bet he will be back in the sport if not with Wrexham then in another capacity.

I'm older than Bale by a few years but I'd love to retire now and play golf everyday. Not sure why it seems so odd for a footballer to want that. Especially when he has more money than he knows what to do with. It's admirable in a way that he isn't just chasing another payday in the Saudi League like others with ambition.

The 2 hollywood owners need to be very careful at this point.

They need a good football man advising them on summer recruitment (im sure that will be the case).

I know its all just rumours/social media banter at the moment, but being linked with people like Bale, Daniel Strurridge and Phil Jones is very worrying. Signings like that will backfire massively - i guarantee.

I'm enjoying the story and I really like those 2, seem like decent blokes. But they need to be sensible. League 2 will be very tough, they need players who know what it's all about.

I've described 55+ retirement for someone who has worked for a living and has a few bob squirreled away.

Footballers play for a living. What do those who reach the mid 30's with millions in the bank usually do?

There's only so many sports shows you can appear on, and how many have the ability to become football writers?

I don't know what other successful sportsmen have done but I would imagine golf has filled a hole for a lot of those with enough in the bank not to worry about making more.

He's lead his country, won plenty of trophies. For me it would be good to see him put his boots on and play for his local non league club, there's not enough of that going on. That's not ambition though, he's achieved that, been one of the best in the world at what he does. If you were in his shoes what ambition would you have, what would you try to achieve that you hadn't already done?

If I could retire at 33 and enjoy a life doing the things I want to do with no financial concerns; I would.

Yeah, I hope they don't start to get over-excited. So far they seem to be making good decisions but once all the hangers-on start blowing smoke up their deadpools, there's also a risk they start to believe it. To be fair, the football people at the club seem to have their heads screwed on.

It's crazy how good at marketing Wrexham have suddenly become. Every football forum up and down the country discussing a transfer that's never going to happen.

If he still cared about footy he'd get a better club than Wrexham, even in his diminished state.

He can't care about the money, anything they'd offer would be a drop in the ocean to him surely. And he'd be able to get better elsewhere anyway.

I'm just not sure the Wrexham project is going to be that exciting to a multi millionaire who has multiple champions league titles. I wouldn't necessarily say that made him an empty vessel.

It's not like it's his hometown club or anything.
Tend to agree given it’s not his hometown team or even close….now if the welsh national team had an injury crisis and they asked him to play right back to help out one game I’m sure he would….

He’s richer than rich and with a body failing him like woodgates did then, get the golf sticks out, spend time with the family, and enjoy life….
Good luck to him

I guess it just gets like any other job.. plus there will be injuries etc
