Bale to Wrexham

He looked league 1 level at the world cup, legs had already gone then

Never though he was that good a player technically, his athleticism was 75% of his game, once that is gone he is magnitudes less efective

Not the kind of player who can drop into midfield as an older player and spray balls around at all

If he signed and played for next to nothing, then Wrexham would make a fortune, purely just off shirt sales alone!

But I can't imagine he'd sign for peanuts, so it should probably be a no-go.

It would be canny for him to be involved in the project in some way.. even just to have him knocking around the place every now and then for a year.

It’ll never happen. Bale is a 4 times Champions League winner who played for the biggest club in football. There is no way he’d play in League Two.

This is where people begin to resent the ideology of Wrexham's rise. Imagine how much they would have to pay him to get him out of retirement (and drag him away from the golf course).

Not only that - he retired for a reason. He has had his moment in the sun and renown success. I bet there are dozens of young U23s at Premier League/Championship clubs busting for an opportunity for regular first team football who would jump at the chance of playing at Wrexham for a season.

Look at Chelsea and their strategy of buying every star player across Europe - it breeds resentment and hatred towards them.

Your point is a good one in theory.
Remember Ronaldo, Bekcham et al tho....... money talks

And this is the crux of the problem for me.
The other thread on the legitimacy of Man City and other big spenders rubs right up against this one.

The owners will, if Bale wants it, find a way to make it work financially. Much like we did in our hay day. It's all within the rules and its all for the good of the community but....... just stinks to me, regardless of who is in charge.

Maybe befriending Ryan Renaults and Rob McElhenny and getting on a TV show is enough motivation?

He couldn't stay fit enough or motivated enough as one of the star players in the MLS, preparing to play for his country, I don't think coming out of retirement for a fourth division side is going to be that tempting.

He turned down playing for Cardiff, his hometown club, for the first time at the start of this season, Wrexham have far less of a connection to him.

He's spent most of his professional career in the spotlight, I don't see a documentary about a lower league club being the clincher.

I could be wrong, I'd be interested to see how he did if he did get roped in, he looked finished whenever I saw him play for Wales in the past few years, bar the odd dead ball.

I'd be very surprised if he could be arsed. It's not exactly just turning up on a match day for a kick about is it? He'd have to train, keep himself fit, eat correctly etc. As well as give up a lot of time off/golfing time.

All for what, because Wrexham are a bit Hollywood right now? Think he's been there and got the t-shirt for media exposure. Can't see it myself.
