Ayresome Park in uproar

I saw all three games and was surprised by the result. In the first game against USSR there was a distinct physical mismatch. The Koreans found it difficult to win the ball in the air. The USSR used that to their advantage and ran out easy winners. It should have been the template that the Italians used but they preferred a passing game and largely kept the ball on the floor. The rest is history!

Gates were low as there was apathy towards World Cup football, Boro hadn't attracted any of the big sides (this according to the Gazette) and it wasn't helped that we had just been relegated to the third tier for the first time in our history.

When I watched the game of our lives I was surprised by how well dressed the crowd were. Did you all wear suits and ties or was that just for the north stand?

I remember going to Boro games in season 1970/71 and it was 6 shillings (30p) to stand. I would guess 10 shillings to sit - so it was pricey for the World Cup games.

England games group stages were not sell outs.

In Euro 96 wasn't there only 8,000 for a group stage match at St James Park?

I remember the row of Korean followers sitting in the main stand, all dressed almost identically in gaberdine macs and dark trousers. When the party leader stood, they all stood to applaud.

It was 1/6 in the boys end and 4/0 in the Holgate in 1966/67 season so it was almost double normal price.

Funny that , my old fella always dressed in suit and tie till after he was 60 odd. He was iron moulder. We used to wear short pants trouser suits from 6 to about 10 for family weddings, funerals conformations:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You didn’t get many fans from the countries playing I seem to recall. A few Russians with a CCCP chant was the only one that sticks in the memory
