I know he only signed on Friday, but noticed he was not involved at all for Blackburn yesterday. There appears to be two senior keepers already at Blackburn, including a Greek one they signed in the Summer who is their number 2. Its going to tough for him to get a game this season.

Warnocks comments about him and his advisers and his family are intriguing. Although he made a joke about it I thought they were revealing

"I wasn't prepared to keep him" sounds pretty damning.

I'm sad to see him go as his dad was my first Boro hero.
I think a few have written him off too soon as a player; he's made some errors, but what young player doesn't? When a keeper makes them they are costly.

Got an unexpected chance because of an injury to Randolph, he went from National League North to the Championship and got too big for his boots.
He was heading out on loan to League Two before the injury.

I've no doubt he'd still be here and at least number two if he'd signed the deal when it was offered.

The quotes from Warnock say it all.

Before anyone mentions Stojanovic, let's not forget that Pears continued to be number one for another 2 months until an error against Forest cost us a deserved win.

I don't think Warnock meant much by it, just sounds like he wasn't in his plans, and Pears was probably pushing for a good deal and to feature more

There was a real opportunity for him to try and impress Warnock and convince him he could be no 1 rather than sign Bettinelli but instead sounded like he’s being doing his head in around the place and couldn’t wait to leave as Ben says, to big for his boots. I hope he enjoys being reserve goalie at Blackburn

It's certainly a peculiar one. Not signing a new deal pre-dates Warnock, and I remember Woodgate being cagey about it at the time when no deal had been signed yet others such as Coulson, Spence and Walker were signing new contracts.

However, it was pretty clear from when Warnock became manager that he didn't rate Pears or Stojanovic as number 1. Both got games in the run in but neither were convincing. There was time on his side for Pears to sit it out as number 2 and maybe get a chance if Bettinelli got injured/suspended, or when/if Bettinelli or Warnock leave next summer.

As a young lad, and a boro supporter you would have thought he would have stuck it out a bit longer. Although, if it appears your manager doesn't rate you and a new number one comes in why hang about.

Warnock comes across as all nicey nicey in front of the microphone but I am sure he is quite ruthless and knows what he wants behind the scenes. Just look at Walker.....threadbare up front yet sends him out on loan. Says it all.

Warnock’s comments and the comments on this thread are a nonsense.
All the kid wanted to do was play for the club he has supported all his life and he was devastated to have to leave.
He was never offered a new contract and for the record none of his family have ever spoken to Warnock.

Woodgate was lying when he said he'd been offered a new contract in January then?

Coincidental that this is a totally new account, of course.
