During BLM, the sentiment on here was largely 'let them pull down the statues, they're not needed' and 'who are these thugs guarding the cenotaph'. So now, when a statue of someone who happened to be born in what has now become Teesside (didn't actually spend much time here) gets vandalised for similar reasons, I can't really say I care much tbh.

Just my own perspective of course. For me, Middlesbrough/Teesside has a lot more going for it than a divisive figure who lived hundreds of years ago.
