Auf Wiedersehen, Pet

Series 1 and 2 were the best the rest were just stereotyping the characters.
I'm sure all fans of the originals would say that, but as someone who was 'new' to it, I really enjoyed them. Some classic lines in it I thought and the characters were still all very likeable.

That’s what Bomber likes. That’s what Bomber came for!

looks like Barry’s burnt the toast again.

I’ll have your arrse for a hat! Aye, an it’ll suit yer an’arl!

great show. Too many good lines to mention. Have watched first 2 series many times.

is an English comedy-drama programme about seven English construction workers who leave England to search for employment overseas. In the first series, the men live and work on a building site in Düsseldorf. The series was created by Franc Roddam after an idea from Mick Connell, a bricklayer from Stockton-on-Tees, and mostly written by d*ck Clement and Ian La Frenais, who also wrote The Likely Lads, Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? and Porridge.

No one is doubting it was based on Teesside lads, it's just that they chose Newcastle because it was more recognizable to "outsiders" much the same way The Likely Lads was based in a non specific location in the north east (sometimes imagined to be Hartlepool) but for Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads it was decided they would call out Newcastle as the setting.

Loved Oz's Johhny Giles analogy after he'd 'experienced' an older lady (the customs officer's wife).

"Yer knaw when footballers get to a certain stage, they've got to slow there game doon?...."

😁

I read somewhere that the kids drama Jonny Briggs was also originally devised in Teesside but they moved it to Bradford for whatever reason.

The way he used to say 'Arrrrrrr Rita' precludes it from being set in Teesside.

When they meet Hedley in the German hospital, when he dies Oz tries to smuggle porn vids in the coffin.

Barry and Wayne thinking they are meeting air hostesses in the hotel, German couple think they are muggers.

Series 1 is hilarious. Watch it every year.

The original Jonny Briggs books were set in Middlesbrough. Written by Joan Edington who is from Middlesbrough herself.

I loved every episode. When series 3 first aired and they were at the Middlesbrough transporter bridge I got quite emotional 😀 I would have to say my favourite ever scene was when they first saw the video of Arthur Pringle at that 'party' at the Manor. Absolutely hilarious 👍

I absolutely loved it all, and like others on here have watched the whole lot of it quite a few times.
The series set in Derbyshire is absolute quality.

There's been nothing as good as it on TV, really there hasn't. But I guess, I'm of an age.......

By the way, was anyone else dying for Oz or Bomber to stick one on Magowan after he punched Neville?
