At the final whistle on Saturday

well when I go its by car, so never see the sense leaving early to try and get a drive away, going to miss something eventually in the final minutes,
and I always expect to be stuck in traffic anyways even if bail early, parking on neighbouring sites around the ground

I'd still be there till the end if we were 15-0 down, might miss goal 16 lol

I never understand this.

The worst is when the game is in the balance or we're chasing for a last minute goal.

Winners/equalisers in the last minute of games are some of the best parts of watching football. The sheer joy and emotion from nicking a winner in added time or pinching an equaliser with the last kick is priceless...and yet there's some fans who leave 5/10 minutes before FT every single week regardless of the score etc.

Each to their own, but I will never ever leave early, regardless of the result/performance as in football, you just never ever know.

I have never understood this element of beating the traffic. You're talking about 25000 people leaving in half a dozen different directions. It must put at maximum 30 minutes on your journey home.

I have left early in the past but only because of the dross being served up on the pitch.

When the final whistle went on Saturday I reckon 75% of Boro fans had already left… The team has just put in the best performance of the season, so why?and what must the players think ? , personally i love it after a victory when the lights start to flash and the music is booming and the opportunity is there to say well done
I can't bear to miss any of the action - good or bad. I'm in my seat 15 minutes before KO and wait to see the players off. Some folks near me don't appear after half time - prefer the concourse/hospitality rather than the game. Crackers!

What puzzles me is that most games are in the balance going in to the last 10 minutes: I'd guess 80-90% of matches have no more than one goal in them going in to the last 10 minutes.

The last 10 minutes are therefore the climax of the match: the bit where it gets decided. It's the equivalent of walking out of the cinema just before the climax.

I always stay to the end, but if I wanted to avoid the traffic, I'd think it better to miss the first half, see the game to the end, have a pint after, and set off home at around half 5.

Each to their own of course, but I am amazed so many choose to miss what is usually the most important part of the game.

One of my brothers and his father in law stay till about 10 mins after the final whistle. They have a parking slot in front of the ground due to dodgy legs n that. So better to stay and clap the players than go and sit in the car for 15 minutes until they are let out.
My other brother travels up from Leeds every game, but he still stays with me and my little lad to the final whistle. No one gets any extra points for staying till the final whistle but leaving early just to 'beat the traffic' seems daft to me.
The 2 ST holders next to me went home at half time of the Brighton game. HALF TIME! Ludacris.

Probably just a reflection on modern society as much as anything else. People are always in a rush.

Every time I go on a flight I'm struck by that.

Can't get in the queue to sit down on the plane fast enough.
Can't stand up to queue to get off the plane fast enough.
Usually ends up with being last off the bus to the terminal, and back of the queue for passport control.
I don't know if airports result in a stress response that makes people act like this, but you're much better off chilling.

Some fans leave early nowhere near 75% it tends to be older fans (from what I’ve seen) who must struggle walking in the crowd.

I stay a bit later, it has the same effect..
Other than the South Stans, I think 75% of people had left their seats by the final whistle.

I'm guilty of this to be honest, but if i don't go a few minutes early I get stuck at the top of the stairs for at least 20 minutes (south stand).

I've never understood it because you aren't there just to find out the result. Surely a goal in the 90th minute when you are cruising is still enjoyable.

I always think "what if?". No matter how unlikely it is that something might happen at 2-0 going into the 90th minute imagine leaving at 2 down and missing one of the greatest comebacks in history to save 5 minutes sitting in traffic.
How many home games a season do you think are decided in the the final 5mins+

Pretty much a wasted journey if you’re missing the crucial deciding moments. I like the comparison with going to the pictures and walking out before movie ends..

How many films are fully resolved in the last 10mins?

That’s just not accurate.
Really? I looked around from block 23 and the East Stand seemed empty. In the absence of empirical data, I’m standing by my subjective view. If you have any evidence to substantiate your assertion, please do share.

I have my two young sons with me... if we don't leave on 90 mins we get stuck at the top of the east stand with them desperate for the toilet.

The reason we get stuck??? all the bell ends standing on the stairs talking to each other and not moving.... seriously the last time we stayed until the end we were stuck for 35 mins.

The other thing that annoys me is the doyles that come up to their seats 10 mins late, then leave them again around the 25 min mark to then return and 35 mins and then do the same in the second half... usually non season ticket holders that do it... I have no idea why

we had a row of 6 doing it to us on Saturday... they seriously must have been up and down 8-10 times over the game. I would bet they only saw about half an hour

15% by the final whistle?

It is annoying that folks stand up and obscure your view in the last minutes of the game.. funny when they miss a goal or a result tho!

Not sure what we could do to prevent it tbh..
change the car park configuration? Have some post match entertainment? In the stadium and outside..

Sounds like cocaine.. we should be encouraging the use of psychedelics.
