At least one North East club has won the cup in last 20 yrs!!!

The time another team from the North East wins a major trophy.
Dunno like.
Sunderland bragging about 1973 for so long seemed irrelevant and just served to highlight how poor they'd been since.
We might be heading that way.

Did some work at Spartan rolling mill in Gateshead. They had a small skip in the car park where the test house chucked used steel samples. It wasn't far from the coffee machine so everyone hoyed plastic cups in it.
Somebody put 'NO CUPS' on it in yellow marker paint. Underneath this somebody wrote 'NEWCASTLE UNITED TROPHY CABINET'.😊

Can't say I've ever really seen them do so, but I'd have been bragging about it if I was a Sunderland fan too, winning the FA Cup as a second division team was a great achievement.

But I was born 20 years after the event, and we'd done more than them in my lifetime.

If Newcastle or Sunderland won a major trophy again, I don't think I'd be mentioning the League Cup anymore either, they'd obviously be more recently successful.

I feel so sorry for them and I think we should help.
There must be a geordie fans forum that would appreciate a link to this thread.
They could read it and get an idea of what it feels like to win something.
They live within 50 miles of boro so we are their most successful local team.
I think it would cheer them up no end.
