At a time of crisis this Government is FAILING

Kettles calling ................

We’d challenge you to a logic off, but it’s questionable you’d even realise you’d lost
I don't know. That's exactly my point. All your criticism is based on something you have no knowledge of. Your criticism is ideology based instead of evidence based because you have no evidence.

No, this is just wrong. We do have evidence. We might not have all the evidence, we might not have all the reasoning. Then again we might. You are inventing evidence and explanations and they don’t convince.

Plus the thread is about the government failings. At the very least we have a failure to communicate.

Well if you accept the official statement then they believed that they weren't invited to take part. My made up statement above is, ridiculously, very close to the real situation based on the recent update.
It seems that the UK government WAS invited to take part-
Stubborness and ideology will cost lives-
I hope this cant is haunted by the spirits of the dead for the rest of his fkn miserable life.

They were invited.

HMG are now saying it was a ‘communication mix up’.

I dare say some believe that. In which case it’s just incompetence not ideology. Which is worse? Ideology, I’d say, which I reckon is the same judgement HMG came to when deciding to ‘clarify’.

I’m positive that this pandemic will be used by the government to divert public funds to Tory backers and the other 1% at the top of the tree.

The part of the whole **** up I have the biggest issue with is the lack of ppe. There should have been stockpiles in place to protect NHS staff and the general public before this outbreak, to have dithered when we knew what was coming and leaving nurses and doctors exposed is unforgivable.

If we do get a big spike in infections, and going by data from more prepared countries, medical staff are most at risk, what happens if the spike takes place whilst significant numbers of our already stretched and massively underfunded NHS workers are too sick to work, infected or worse?

' Used by the government to divert public funds to Tory backers and the other 1% at the top of the tree'

I empathise if you feel oppressed but this is fantasy.

And why exactly is it fantasy? The Tories have used every instrument available to inflate the wealth of a select few to the detriment of society as a whole. Why will they suddenly change their modus operandi?

the deal with Dyson says everything about how this will pan out. They will use it as an excuse for another money grab.

Millbrook did we not join the EU ventilator scheme because we lost the email and missed the deadline or because No 10 said we're not in the EU anymore and didn't want anything to do with it? Seems like Johnson is backtracking to me. Once he realised the backlash that was coming he had to come up with some reason.

It was only 3 weeks ago Johnson was bragging about shaking hands with some people who he thought probably had Coronavirus.
Tomorrow there are 4 flights to Heathrow from Madrid but NOBODY is to be tested. Wtf?

Bit of an indictment from the editor of the Lancet

NHS left unprepared

Dr Horton wrote that the government’s Contain-Delay-Mitigate-Research plan had failed. “It failed, in part, because ministers didn’t follow WHO’s advice to ‘test, test, test’ every suspected case. They didn’t isolate and quarantine. They didn’t contact trace.

“These basic principles of public health and infectious disease control were ignored, for reasons that remain opaque.

Dr Horton also expressed concerns over the government’s new Suppress-Shield-Treat-Palliate plan. “This plan, agreed far too late in the course of the outbreak, has left the NHS wholly unprepared for the surge of severely and critically ill patients that will soon come,”

There is very little positive coming out of the international press or health professionals around the UK's handling of the corona pandemic. Whilst I agree the the financial aid packages put in place are welcome, everything else I hear from the government fills me with dread.

The recent spike in the number of deaths in the UK is particularly worrying.
The prevaricating over the purchase of ventilators 3 months into the crisis is damning
The lack of health professionals PPE is an utter disgrace
Failing to follow international advice from the WHO and other countries medical professionals who were further down the pandemic road than us was a mistake at best.
Johnson failing to follow social distancing advice was foolish

However none of the above indicates that Johnson is feathering anyone's nest at the cost of British lives, he may be, but statements like this show a clear political bias and are based on an historical hatred of the Tories. Sometime people, even morally corrupt people can do the right thing, or even the wrong thing for the right reasons.

politicians across the planet appear to be having hard time with this cov19 on a personal basis.

it appears to be the most dangerous job on the planet at this moment in time.

must be a disproportionate number who have become infected and/or have self isolated due to showing symptoms.

my gripe with how this govt have handled it, is that we waited too long to shut down, and do the home self service manoeuvre that we are all now involved in, by around 6 weeks. - a criticism for that may be that there was a greater concern for finance and shares, over public safety and security (a governments first job) of its people (us subjects).

however that can be counter-balanced with the unprecedented viciousness and manoeuvrability of this virus, using the human body to silently disperse - and that any government regardless of wing, colour or creed had little experience in evaluating the hazard and risk to those on these islands, and that they waited for the lockdown as a matter of last resort - (given that when the lockdown came, 8 or 9 days ago, many folk ignored it - so imagine what it would have been like had it been called late Jan early Feb).

of course, 10 years + of tory/liberal & tory/dup austerity measures have placed the entire country weakened and with a lack of community infrastructure and skilled resources to deal with a outbreak such as a Cov19 virus (and similar). That's why we are having to call on the retired and the displaced to volunteer.
