I think the government has handled it fairly well so far.
Ignore s!ovak. He is clearly a wind up merchant.Interesting - what do you base it on, particularly in light of those comments in the Washington Post, and criticism from the WHO?

Good try. No comment.Id suggest New York and the USA focus on their own failings and problems.
I don't say that in a nasty way. I actually don't mind Trump. I think his presidency has been ok. He has failings though and has made his own comments on this situation which now look wrong and misguided. Maybe they should concentrate on problems on that side of the water.
Come on here and say anything derogatory about china, their leaders, the lies, their eating habits, the reason this virus started and your shot down, yet it's applauded and agreed with when other countries slag off our elected leader in this time of national crisis.
Pathetic
Is that the same WHO who didn't declare it a pandemic until March 11? (15 days ago)
Talk about the pot and kettle when it comes to dithering. There were 118000 cases in 110 countries at the time.
WHO are a waste of space with a corrupt leader who has had to defend himself more than once against accusations in his own country.
His main advice has been test test test. Good luck with the 1.3 billion in India at 250 quid+ a time.
Still he does read out loud well from a prompter.
Did you not see this from me?Spanishman , it's not yet illegal to have an opinion different to yours yet is it?
I utterly despised both Boris and Trumps agenda, but acknowledge that Trump has a positive rating in the US, that does not make 50%0of then stupid.
I'm not defending anybody but my myself when YOU said I was complicit in state run killings because I have a different opinion to yours.Of course there has to be key workers available to work; we need utilities, transport etc but it had to be just absolutley key workers.
Instead of taking control of the situation Johnson actively fluffed and dithered when the cost is likely to be thousand of unneccesary deaths.
How anyone can defend him is beyond me.
I agree with that - a global review of what happened and each countries approach can only be evaluated once this is over. I dare say our approach won’t be the best but also not the worst.I would also add to the statement I repeated above as follows:
We have to wait and see what happens in the next week or two. We should know a lot more by then. So I suggest that people (including myself) keep their powder dry.
Of course we can have opinions and express them. However, as yet, we do not have conclusive proof. (Apart from with the charge of deliberately neglecting the NHS since they last took over power 10 years ago).
I hope you are right FatCat in as much as our performance isn't as bad as I and others think.I agree with that - a global review of what happened and each countries approach can only be evaluated once this is over. I dare say our approach won’t be the best but also not the worst.

Are you taking notice of the government's advice to stay in?
Did you panic buy last week?
Were you one of the many people on the pubs and bars on Friday night?
Let’s see - sure we could have done better- gone into lockdown sooner, enforce the lockdown more strictly.I hope you are right FatCat in as much as our performance isn't as bad as I and others think.
You measure performance by comparing stats with other countries FatCat. It has been said before, after this is over may be too late and jwe are left counting the cost in lives of thepolicies put in place. So in this regard I couldn't disagree more.I’m not sure the gvt is failing there is a hell of a lot to resolve and im sure many are working around the clock. The solution for the self employed should come today which is t a bad turn around given the complexity of that particular issue and the different versions of self employed that exist.
It’s easy to bash the gvt -
Could they have done better ?sure, however I think they are also performing well in aspects of their approach.
when this is all over we can only begin to analyse the pros and cons of our approach. How do you measure success in this unprecedented sce
Yes totally agree, any little bit of positivity, goes a long wayYour absoloutely right, but human nature being what it is, we are all looking for any ray of hope, which is understandable.
It doesn't seem like the government has done as well as it could have, but we will only really know when this is over and a thorough independent review is carried out, not just here but around the world.
