Astonishing Championship wages: Burnley,Blades,Mackems,Watford,Stoke,Boro [Wigan Today]

That’s very misleading

second top Championship earner is Zak Steffen on £80,000 per week - £4,160,000 per year!

It’s Man City who set that fee he’s not our player. It’s a loan.
agreed and there is no way any championship side would pay a loanee 4mill wages, even a relegated parachute payment side wouldn't pay that. We won't be paying 50% let alone 100%

No.
It does say *some players are on loan.
It doesnt differentiate who`se paying or who the parent club is.
Its about players playing in the Championship(y)

Amazing how much some of our defenders are allegedly on compared to some of our other players. I can see us paying potentially half of Steffens alleged wages. He's not worth what he's currently on, so can imagine we will be after a first choice no. 1 next year, unless he gives one of the young lads a chance, Brynn, Hemming and Roberts. Wouldn't mind one of those three being given an opportunity.

37k Gayle on a 2 year deal at Stoke....first goal on Saturday. I mean many on here said 'pay anything' to get him. Just like Wilder. Well done recruitment team 👌

Ben Gibson 43k....local lad done well for himself.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but when we signed Steffan, I think it was reported (somewhere) that we'd be paying around 10-15% of those wages....
so 8-12k/week, pretty standard across the team.

I think the overall problem is players wages seem to go up and up when they're in form and playing for new contracts, but they never come back down again.

We can't afford to pay anyone close to £80k/week - more like £20k/week plus bonuses

It benefits City for us to play him week in week out

Keepers are usually paid less than say forwards.

Some of the wages we are paying to appease Wilder are a bit crazy, 10K for Luongo who didn't kick a ball, 14k for Mowatt and 17k for Clarke. Surprised by that last one and Luongo in particular. McNair should be sold if possible, and Howson should be on a lot less if he signs on again at the end of the season. Even other reserve defenders are on a lot, Bola and Dijksteel. No wonder Tommy Smith wants a pay rise!

We paid £28m last season for all the clubs employees - so the average for the players would have been in around £18k/week range. If we paid one player £4m a year we would have to pay the rest about £12k/week

Established long term Championship players are paid around £15k to £18k/week from what I can gather.

Parachute clubs will have legacy players on higher wages same for clubs who have come up from Div 1 on lower wages.

FFP is forcing clubs to standardise wages. Owners can't subsidise clubs to the degree like they used to.

Dale Dry will be on more than that. I reckon a lot of those are auto generated based on what division they are in, if the player has played in the top league etc and year their deal was signed. they might have reliable info on a few players so they use that so make a sum and work out one for Dale Fry which won't be accurate. As said above they do not have info on Sonny Finch who won't be on 180 a week.

Suppose it depends on the point of the article but unless it shows what % of a loan players salary a club is paying then I don't really see how it's relevant what they're paid as premier League players. It's a different world (although City paying a reserve goalie £80k a week is madness).

Some of the none loan player salaries are still eye watering.
its not for city, clubs like that often over pay to have someone of good quality on the bench or in reserves, that way they don't rock the boat and ask to leave all the time. even 40k for top end clubs is fairly common for the experienced 3rd choice. Love to be a 3rd choice premier league goal keeper, its my dream job lol, look at some of the keepers we have had over the years, plenty have stunk the joint out and then moved onto a champions league clubs bench

that's why clubs like ours never stand in the way of 2nd/3rd choice experienced hands if they get an opportunity to leave as they easily replaced and feels like its part of the deal to get them on board

as for this wage list though its all just guesses on sites like that, does sound alot of money for steffan that city are paying him, but they are far more sites that are quoting half of that figure as I've seen plenty of fans bring it up like we are paying all of his wages when we are not lol. thats only place I've seen quoting him at 80k a week, every where else quoted at 40-46k, but if your going to use a source for your story then its going to grab more clicks if you use the site thats over inflating everything.

Surprised Jones isn't on a lot more, and Fry too compared to people like McNair, Lenihan, Clarke and Fry.
I'm not surprised, the club are not that good at giving internal pay rises to players, unless they really have to

It has Ryan Giles on £4700/week - does anyone beleive that?
It's not out of the question. Signed from youth in 2018 will have been on a pittance at that point. Had a couple of years going out to lower leagues, then in 2020/21 spent 6 months at Cov then 6 at Rotherham as a championship loanee. He didn't make any great waves at this point and would have been on smaller wages than today.

It was only when he went to Cardiff last season that he started to look a championship star, but I don't think he's had a new contract after that success so basically still on lower champ/top league one wages. I'd expect it to be higher if Wolves had shown any intention to play him or had given him an improved contract in the last 18 months.

Very lazy article. Assumes that the loaning club are paying 100% of a player's wages during their loan spell which is invariably not the case.
