Assombalonga - Skipper for the season

Stange. I thought it was nailed on Hall.

I doubt it actually matters in football. You just shake hands and pick an end😂

It's not like cricket where you have so many things going on. I am sure we will have 3-4 more vocal players who actually do the 'job'

Brilliant, think he will have a great season if we can finally play to his strengths

I suppose he is actually one of our most senior players now, and he seems popular in the squad.

Only Fry's been in the squad longer, and Howson by a few weeks.

Might be a masterstroke.

I think he probably thinks he can get more out of Britt if he gives him incentive to work hard, as captain you have to.

Decent/experienced keeper, Hall, Howson, Britt - a spine of leaders now

Hopefully Morsy can come in aswell. It might see my favourite player Howson on the bench but I think Morsy is better than him in that role for sure.

Would never have predicted this when Warnock first came in... very bold call but I'm sure he's seen something that warrants the decision.

I think the role of the captain is actually very underrated in modern football. You look at the likes of Henderson for Liverpool, not the best midfielder in the league, but he obviously is a huge part to their team as a motivator and leader.

He is not the best midfielder in the league no but he is one of them. Most underrated footballer I have ever seen. He’s quality.

You only need to look as far back as Grant to see how important a strong captain can be to a team.

I think the idea is it will get more out of him and a fit and firing Britt could be huge for us, if he keeps playing how he has been recently. The likes of your Halls, Howsons and Morsy’s are 7 or 8 out of tens every week anyway and will be ‘captains’ on the pitch in there own way anyway.

This is about getting the best out of Britt and Britt only. Could prove to be a mastersroke as said above.

It is an extremely strange decision.
There are zero leadership attributes in Assombolonga.
Indicative of a lack of signings.

It's looking distinctly likely that Britt could and probably will leave for nothing next summer. I don't see us matching or improving his current contract.

That's a bit depressing. The same could be said of Fletcher🙁

Bit of an odd decision; maybe NW thinks responsibility will bring the best out of Britt.
Wouldn't have been my choice, but then I don't really know any of them.

Could be for the reasons above? Hoping for a bit of genius man management? Didn’t he make Taarabt captain at QPR? Didn’t work out to bad for him did it when no one would of seen that as obvious. Maybe he knows how to get the best out of players. I ain’t doubting his judgement just yet.

I don't see many Champ clubs doing so tbh. He'll have to go to Qatar or take a pay cut, unless he has a fantastic season and the PL clubs come sniffing around, which has to be a good thing for us.

We all know Britt is capable of 20 league goals, maybe this is the push he needs.
