As if Lockdown wasn't bad enough...

As a child we all loved power cuts, kids telly finished at 5:45 with Zebedde declairing it was time for bed, and if you were very lucky you got Tom & Jerry for 5 minutes as the TV scheduling went boobies up. So a power cut was a chance to dig candles out and tell ghost stories.

Ive got a box of these under the sink for just the occasion.

As a young lad we lived in a village where power cuts were regular.
We had torches to go to bed with and to make dens in the garden an little battery radios to listen to Radio Luxembourg.
Loved the 70s when only bus headlights guided us along the pavement on the way home.
Theres a wind- up charger in my camping kit and a min-solar charger for the phone and laptop.
Trangia stove with metholated spirit burner and jet-boil in the cupboard.
Self - heating rat packs.
4 season Arctic Sleeping Bag.
Its maybe hard for some, but I see such things as a big adventure.

We had a power cut a few years back and straight away we had the radio on, candles lit and started playing cards. When the light came on we switched them off and carried on.

The foster kids thought it was great.

Power cuts were definitely more fun as a child.

As an adult? Not so much haha. The power cut even knocked the mobile signal down a few notches on my phone last night too

These days I annoy the neighbours by running my generator.
Last time we had a power cut was back in April 2012 when heavy, freezing snow caused major disruption. Northern Powergrid got the power back on after a day or so ................... sort of.

Happy days.👍

We played top trumps under candlelight . It was a real adventure especially with a bottle of Lowcocks/Alpine dandelion Burdoch/American cream soda , that we passed around and all took a swig out of In the days before germs . Only fairies used a glass

Loved a good power cut. Another thing this generation of kids will never know.

My memory of them seem to coincide with watching The Karate Kid
