Armand Gnanduillet

The thing is if we want to 'unearth gems from the lower leagues', then you have to take risks sometimes on players who don't, on paper, look like superstars. Anyone could just say "sign Ivan Toney", but he might be too expensive, especially in the post-covid world.

But if we just look at Browne and Bola as yardsticks of it not working out, we might as well just stop looking at anyone below the Championship and beg the big clubs for some scraps on loan. Ironically, there are loads of examples of that not working out too.

Nmecha's a big bloke who can bully defenders but you wouldn't be happy if we signed him!
I never saw him bully defenders mind.

For me, freebies like this aren't worth judging until we've seen them. Pretty sure Warnock knows what he's doing and won't have signings forced upon him.

To be honest I think it's better not to judge any players until you've seen them close up over a run of games.

Some players just click with certain clubs and within a specific tactical set up. Who knows whether other clubs haven't been using a player to get the best out of them and in another environment and with different tactics they might look a completely different player. I'd just trust Warnock's judgement for now until I see them play for a period with my own eyes.

I look back on signings like Southgate who when you saw him week in week out was a far better player than you might have appreciated from watching highlights and the the odd live game here and there. Or a player like Afonso Alves who I think was better than he showed here, we just didn't particularly play to his strengths (e.g flogging Rocky who would have been perfect for angled through balls for his runs).

Ultimately it's Warnock who will live or die by his decisions, he knows what style/tactics he wants to play and what ingredients he needs to make it work (which was one of Woodgate's problems). I'm happy to leave it up to Warno, with his experience he's shown he has an eye for a player and has signed more good 'uns than bad 'uns over the years.

Spot on.

I think it's great we're looking at signing more players from the lower league, IMHO it's not a gamble, low output & will most likely be recouped, no chance of getting money back on a big signing who doesn't cut it
I agree with a posters comments, a club & a player will match & that's it bang, it may also be just lazy paper talk

Released by Blackpool? So they didnt want him? Or his contract expired and he told them he didnt want to sign another?
I think it's a contract expiration issue, only Ivan Toney scored more than him in League One last year but prior to that his minutes played seem to hint at him being a an impact sub largely. If he is the answer, I'm not sure what the question is

Who’s cheap and suits Warnocks way of playing?

Alan Nixon thinks it’s codwallops that we are in for him.

Wonder if his agent is just chucking his name about to get drive up some interest

He's a 1 season wonder, if you can call 18 games in League One a wonder, we can sign much better.
