One of my faves . Just laid on my bed listening to them since dawn soaring and singing their heads off . I’m dead lucky as there’s a farm near me where they nest in the barn eaves . Mind they hardly ever nest at all as they spend nearly their entire life on the wing ( even sleeping and mating ) . Honest !
Sadly in decline in the UK and will be heading home back to Africa soon .

We get a flock of swifts every evening looking for supper over our house.

It's lovely watching them. One thing that has always struck me is how hard they have to work to fly.

You are right that they only land to raise their young. Given they don't reach sexual maturity until 2 years old, they spend the first 2 years of their lives on the wing.

We’re building an extension at the moment with swift bricks to be placed in the upper eves.

Well done sir . The farm I mentioned is currently levelling a few of the barns and planting a few 5 bed detached houses ( £££ 😡 ) however credit to the council the developer has to incorporate said bricks in the eaves .

I was in portrack marshes the other day & there seems to be a swift 'wall' in the middle of the marsh made esp for them.. seemed to be loads about.
