Are you confident we will sign Payero?

Something doesn’t quite add up, the deal must have been close if the manager is openly talking about the player pretty much every day, but it’s worrying the longer we wait.
Looks like we’ve spend the majority of the summer chasing these two players, it’s nothing but a disaster if they both don’t come off at this stage, well into the panic buying stage if we have to move onto other targets now

Someone on OneBoro mentioned we had limits in terms of wages and transfer fees, not really sure how that works with Muniz and Payero, even if we were to offload Akpom. Unless those deals were all to be staggered. This could be the financial loose ends NW keeps alluding to

No chance this deal will happen. We've been here 100 times before. For me if we're going with Warnock then he should have had absolute say on what we spent the cash on to try and get us promoted.

Thats pointless too, look at the previous signings hes made. Would you really trust him with 7 million? Plus if hes leaving next year anyway then whats the point of letting him bring his own players in?

Any other club would have got rid after last season anyway, we played some of the worst football imaginable from January and our form was similar to the sides that were relegated. Allowing him another season is just another season wasted as were clearly not in a position to be promoted. Get rid and go for a manager who can bring a long term vision to the club, not someone who is one season off retirement

Well there you go, that's your answer. He should have been gone after last season. This building for the future (Payero, S. American links) / having Warnock as your manager who seems to be only here for one more season is a complete mismatch in approaches.

If we're building for the future then we should have a manager who is part of that. If we're giving it the whole 'all or nothing' on promotion on this season we need to commit to that. Instead we seem to be at a baffling half way house situation which is likely to fail.

Exactly, surely if the plan to give NW one more season then have a big push for promotion, then signing south americans with barely any experience doesnt exactly fit in with that, but if we are building towards a long term goal then why have a manager who will only be here for one more season. Its completely amateur and the club just cant afford to keep making these mistakes. The longer we stay in this league its just going to become impossible to get out of it without huge investment from elsewhere

I get the arguments above about Warnock's longevity but Gibson seems to get hammered by some at every turn. He's appointed ex-players with no experience who might have had years ahead of them but also some experienced managers who've not pulled up trees either. (Strachan, Monk or Pulis anyone?!) Yes, some performances last season were indeed dire but so was the squad and much of that was hardly Warnock's fault. He's been firefighting decisions made before his time since he arrived. Since we're unlikely to attract Pep or steal City's chequebook we might just be well advised to trust Warnock who might be able to blood a future Manager if we aren't going to go down the "experienced" route again.

Yes.

I can't see it falling through at all with the player and his family clearly accepting he's coming here.

The reason Banfield have been able to drag it out is because the player has been at the Olympics and won't arrive in England for a week or two anyway, it could have been a month if Argentina hadn't been knocked out.
They're probably just been trying to get a better deal for themselves whilst they still had leverage.

Transfers are never straight forward, but in the current climate international transfers are full of delays.

he’s done his medical
Fee agreed with club
Personal terms agreed

but he’s been in a bubble, in Japan until late this week. After which he will probably go back to S America and finalise his affairs there. Then he’ll head over to the UK and probably have to quarantine. I wouldn’t expect to see him for a few weeks yet

I’m 50/50 on it, hoping he comes but wouldn’t surprise me if it falls though. I’m more concerned at the lack of forwards and wide player options.

Im not optimistic on payero with our luck. Btw after sleeping on warnocks comments on gibbo wanting to gamble on 'that age grouo'...im pretty sure gibbo is interfering with the recruitment side now instead of letting warnock choose his own players and with bausor ghosting warnock, it doesnt sound like a happy camp atm. Think pressure is on from warnock to get deals done and not let deals drag on.

The phone call thing is a tactic to delay answering questions as things are clearly not fully concluded.

The player will need to go from Japan to Argentina with his squad who knows when they left Japan. They would have to organise flights on Thursday so might have only just got back. He then has to get stuff together and fly to the UK too. I f we are still not sure come Weds evening then i will agree it is a worry. Patience is needed. Will he need to quarantine in Argentina as Covid is rife in Japan. Will he then need to quarantine in the UK? Even if he comes I doubt we will see him play till mid September anyway. I desperately hope the lad comes as from what i have seen at the olympics, he is a talent 🤞
