Are we being left behind?

Do early signings equate to getting better players in through the door? Genuine question.

Weren't Silvera and Gilbert signed in early July?

Many signings will be lined up but clubs will be also getting their replacements lined up to release them to us. Especially Prem clubs who will be agreeing loan releases with players etc.

Will you say that if we’ve still made no signings by July 31st 😉
Possibly, yeah. It's about getting the right people of the right quality. It's not ideal if that comes late, but it's better in the long run if it's the right ones (possibly signed after a big sale)

MF Ethan Galbraith (off to Swansea)
AMThelo Aasgaard (off to Rangers)
- we need a properly good defensive midfielder.
would rather have Darko Gyabi than them two tbh

RB Kaine Kesler-Hayden (signed for Cov)
-Ki-Jana Hoever looks smart

CB Harry Darling (signed for Norwich)
- would rather us sign Alfie Gilchrist tbh

RW Kwame Poku (signed for QPR)
RW Sorba Thomas (signed for Stoke)
-Jesurun Rak-Sakyi beats both of these imo

ST Emil Riise (signed for Brizzle)
-Richard Kone looks quite good too tho

I thought we were behind about 3 weeks ago when we hadn’t even named a manager yet. So yes, I think we are well behind considering the amount of work that needs to be done.

People will say this is “normal” given the time of year and not to panic or whatever. But what has also become normal for us is a slow start to the season.

I am sure it’s not easy bringing in players but I do wish we would be more proactive at times.

I was a little disappointed when Kesler-Hayden chose Coventry over us because he would have improved the squad - I'd have took a risk on Poku too.

The rest of the list are all average.

A long time to go yet.

That's only 7 players, are any of them good enough for a promotion or play-off side?
I've only really heard of Riis and Kesler-Hayden. Riss is not good enough (for what we need), he's gone backwards since his fairly good year in 2021.

Serious injury, I think. USeful striker at this level, does well against us, but maybe not one who will help BC kick on

He wanted to stay close to home, he didn't want to move to the North East
I suspect he was probably the only one on that list we were seriously in for, and a perfectly sound reason for a young player given Coventry and us have been very similar in terms of likelihood of promotion the last few years.
I doubt anyone would sign for say Derby over us all other things being equal

I’m not sure if we’re being ‘left behind’ but, as said by others, given the amount of work that needs to be done I sort of assumed we’d have made a couple of signings by now. I thought once the July section of the window opened we’d have two or three ready to go.

The squad is looking incredibly threadbare. We probably need about 8 players in. There’s loads of time yet though.

I read somewhere else that despite recent sales we need to sell before we can buy, and that cost cutting measures are underway including no private flights to away games.

Might mean the club has eventually become self sufficient and all costs will be covered by revenue.

That was a troll.

We tried to buy Lewis Gibson, Glen Kamara and David Strelec.

We missed out and talk moved to loans.. Giles, Morton, Iheanacho were the order of the day.. Morton was a no go and we ended up bringing in Illing Junior.. to cover for Doak.

We’ve since lost Dijksteel, Clarke & Coburn.. so there’s money there.
