Are we being left behind?

Alot of transfer activity has already taken place, i was hoping we'd be in for the below:

Ethan Galbraith (off to Swansea)
Emil Riise (signed for Brizzle)
Thelo Aasgaard (off to Rangers)
Kaine Kesler-Hayden (signed for Cov)
Harry Darling (signed for Norwich)
Kwame Puko (signed for QPR)
Sorba Thomas (signed for Stoke)

Appreciate it's still early July, hoping there is quite a bit of movement in the next 10 days, we are massively short of quality at the moment.

That would depend on whether we were interested in any of those players. There are some decent players there and if we have tried to sign them and we have had bids rejected or the players have opted for one of those other clubs then there would be some concern, or if we couldn't afford those players. If we weren't interested in them because we have better players on our radar then there's nothing to be concerned about (as long as we complete deals on those better players). If it gets to August and we've been unable to get those better players and these 2nd choice players have already been snapped up so we're stuck buying from the 3rd choice list then there would be a lot to be worried about.

In other words, no, probably not. Give it time.

There's only really Darling I'd have taken out of those moves. It's easy to panic in the close season, but every season I'd say the majority of the main transfer moves happen from mid-July onwards.

Anyway I'd far rather we take the time and get the right bodies in, with the right quality, than rush to just fill squad positions. We have some very specific requirements rather than a need for just squad positions to fill. We need some pace and physicality in the squad, and we need some first teamers who will improve our first XI.

Were any of those players first choice on our list of transfer targets?
I doubt many were, if any.
I’m sure we’ll lose out on some targets this summer, but I don’t think it’ll be those you’ve listed.
Patience, plenty of time to go.

It's more fun if you leave it to the last minute. But remember what happens when we get good...

The club are undertaking a thorough review of the situation before making any decisions on the above transfer targets.

Meanwhile…. They’ve signed for someone else

It’s possibly the consequences of changing managers well after the end of the season. The new manager will want a good look at the squad before making any big decisions on who needs to go and where to improve. There’s also the possibility of high value sales that will change the budget we have to spend. We could be holding back on one or two players in case we can suddenly afford someone much better.

There's always FOMO that kicks in when other teams make signings and we don't.

But I don't really believe many of these teams will actually be improving; they're just changing. A few will get better and a few will get worse as a result of their signings.

Do we believe every signing improves us, or do we believe that we're the only ones who don't make every signing count?

A long time to go yet.

That's only 7 players, are any of them good enough for a promotion or play-off side?
I've only really heard of Riis and Kesler-Hayden. Riss is not good enough (for what we need), he's gone backwards since his fairly good year in 2021. Kesler-Hayden was Preston's best player, but it doesn't say much, they finished 20th.

How many clubs are a similar level to us or would be looking at similar level players to those you listed or players we need? I get you've shown 6 champo clubs there, but that's 6/24.

Some of those are centre mids, which is the least of our worries unless Hackney goes (but we do still need some depth there).

Things have been quiet on the rumour front, but it will probably be down to only just getting in a new "head coach". Being head coach Edwards he won't have much say in who makes up our target list, but will be the one identifying which positions we need to strengthen, and he will only have a good grip on that after seeing the players train for a bit, he's only had a few days with them, and about a week at the club.

In an ideal world, the club should already know where our problems lie, as I assume Carrick was telling them the same thing. Hopefully they've been doing their homework, and it's of a good standard.

I assume Scott, Edwards, Gibbo, Bausor etc will be talking regularly now about what we need, showing Edwards the possible solutions we could realistically get, and then he's going to need to take a look at those, it will take a little time. The window doesn't close for about two months, hopefully we get the right players, rather than rushing to get players through the door.

Maybe they weren’t on our targets list, it was more of players I thought we might target who would certainly improve us.

Let’s wait and see I guess, I’m sure the have a plan…..🫣
