I see that, according to the Coronavirus Data website, the current rates in Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland are 991.9, 964.0 and 923.8. Prior to this recent wave, the previous highest rates in those areas had been 889.4, 676.7 and 507.4.

All five Tees Valley council areas are now in the highest 14 areas in the country for infection rates.

I would also imagine that schools and colleges have been epicentres of infection, so the summer holidays should have a depressive effect on that. Of course, all this has to be balanced against the further relaxation of measures as from yesterday, so time will tell.
