Are Royal Mail delivering on foot every day?

I looked at a role a month or so ago - online it seemed to be employed by RM - however it was on a zero hour contract, as & when they want you, for a 3rd party company ( setup by RM owners ) & working poor hours 15:00-22:00 or something like those - for minimum wage..
Also said some shifts will require 10 miles of walking each day.. with heavy bag..
 
I recently received a letter from the council which contained a line mentioning problems with mail deliveries in the area. I wasn’t aware of any issues other than receiving a letter for a hospital appointment scheduled hours before the letter arrived. I had noticed a decline in deliveries too but put it down to NHS inefficiency and more companies and services going digital.

Rather than getting fined £21 million couldn’t they use that money and offer overtime to get the letters delivered and provide a better service?
 
Had a quick look online. 30 hours a week based on 5 x 6 hours shifts a week. Picked from 9-3 and 2-8 mon to sun. £13 an hour.

I'm guessing they decided the fines are cheaper. I think they're quite a bit steeper under the incoming regulations

I have applied for "Postperson with Driving" at all the local DO's (Boro, Stockton, Redcar, Guisborough) never get a response after you go through and proceed beyond the online assessment (which I pass all the time) and yet the same job advert on the RM recruitment website will appear again in a couple of weeks after the original one.

Also if posties are prioritising parcels, what the hell are ParcelForce doing?

Anyone else in Stockton actually getting letters ?

I’m getting parcels just no letters from them
 
The post comes in 2 or batches a week for me.

I know a lady who son is middle aged postman of a number of years. A typical day for him is to delivery parcels in a small van with a younger person or newer. The parcels are tracked so more time critical. He has to get to work at 5am but finishes at lunch time. He must be on a older contract because he gets paid more than £13/hour. He probably walks 1.5 miles a day, just from the van to houses. The RM appear to have a lot more vans nowadays.

The £13/hour is OK for a 21 year old living at home, but not someone aged 40. I have noticed a lot of people delivering look at about 20 which is consistent with this. I guess RM are now competing with Amazon/White van driver who will be on Living wage.
 
Private Eye is mailed first class on Tuesdays. I rarely get it on Wednesday and it's even been a week late on one occasion. I'm not sure how many I've had to buy....
 
It’s always been a pretty incredible service for the cost of a stamp.
Times change and there’s a lot of competition out there along with fewer items being sent in the post ( happy birthday via Facebook)

My post seems to be about twice a week but it’s rarely anything important

I usually get mine on Wednesday. It's one of our 2-days-a-week deliveries
 
We get a lot of hospital letters that are dated when they’re being sent, they often take 6-7 days. We’ve missed an appointment once as the letter came after the appointment date.
We now gets texts to get around this.
