Are Royal Mail delivering on foot every day?

For the last month I’ve had very few deliveries
2 weeks ago I got about 30 envelopes on the same day , that had been sent on various different days - including bank statements
Then this Wednesday just gone about 10
Nothing any other day in the past 3 weeks
Probably a coincidence - but seems strange

I have a relative who is a postman in the Midlands. He states since the takeover priority is for parcels and 1st class mail. They are short staffed struggling to recruit in what is quite a physical job on foot, it is not the easy job many think it is. Several days can go by before certain streets get their mail. They are supposed to use their best endeavours but the truth is Royal Mail is in a bit of a pickle with low staff morale to boot.

Every other day is enough now isn't it - what with Royal Mail postage down from 20 billion to 7 billion items pa in the last 20 years and most of that is spam

My contact with the Royal Mail left when they wouldn't give him a transfer to Tyneside, but they are low on staff and it seems that if anyone went on holiday, that mail was just left until they returned. In addition, there was no overtime, so any mail not delivered was brought back. Despite protestations to the contrary, packages are prioritised over letters.

Most posties now have a van, because parcels is the priority and the vans are best for carrying parcels. When I drive past the sporting office in the evening there must be 80 ev vans parked up on charge to cover a city of 90k people

We are still supposed to deliver post every day, but as posted above the priority is to get all of the Tracked items out every day. If the day is busy or there is a shortage of staff letters will be left behind in favour of parcels.

Its a decision from up high and front line postal staff are unfortunately having to begrudgingly deal with it. We understand how important letters are to some people but our opinion doesn't seem to count for much anymore in the face of prioritising profits over serving the community.

I get radio times delivered due to cracking deal but mail is only delivered once a week at the moment on a Monday, so there are always 2 and a bit days that are missed as listings go fron Saturday to Saturday. This makes my cracking deal seem like a naff one, even though its not really radio times fault.

I know this is not the most urgent thing but it is still annoying and having spoken to the Mail customer services department all they would say was 'this is a knowbn issue in your area'. It does sound like an issue everywhere though.

Will the Hungarian bloke that has just bought it be the saviour or has he just got pklans to sell all the real estate they own and asset strip it?

He'll see out the guaranteed period and then asset strip it. Try writing to your MP about it. My Private Eye seems to have been arriving on time since I complained to mine.

First of all this isn't just a local issue, this is a countrywide issue and it's the same story wherever you go. Royal Mail management put out statements all the time denying the running down of the mail side of the business in favour of parcels but that is exactly what is happening.

As to the second thing, I very much doubt he has taken over the company to right any wrongs and save Royal Mail from becoming another DPD/Yodel/Hermes. He's taken over and will want to maximise his investment by any means possible. There are threats of mass redundancy incoming unless the company can make a new system of how we deliver work. This new way of working is so far failing everywhere that it has been trailed but they are pushing ahead with it anyway. Front line staff know how bad things are for people who are waiting in vain for important letters that are arriving far too late, but like I said above our complaints, concerns and opinions are treated as inconsequential by managers.

Czech.

Realistically our "letters" are almost always adverts or stuff for previous occupants that we've given up on returning to sender.

Other than that it's usually something from Matt vickers, which is worse.

Can see why it's dwindling away
