Are Boro trying to be like Villa/City?

Villa and Man City have adopted this new football policy where they blood youngsters and sell them for a massive profit while installing buy back clauses and a percentage of the sell on fee.

Villa made £52 Mill on 3 youth products that made a total of 32 appearances for their first team, Archer, Ramsey and Chukwuemeka.

Is this something we are trying?

It’s not a new policy. Clubs have been doing it for years.

There’s also no evidence of us doing it so I dunno how any of us could judge that either way, but we aren’t a club of the type of stature to be able to pull it off.

Who would we even sell for a huge profit? And to who? Because if we’re selling anyone for big money, realistically they’re probably going to be to a bigger club and we aren’t going to be in any position of power at the negotiating table to include a buy back.

It's a new policy in terms of clubs bringing in youngsters on the cheap with big potential, blooding them, some times not even playing any minutes for the first team, and selling them off for a massive profit with a buy back clause and sell on fee, its a machine in itself, a new way for clubs to generate money to reinvest back into the club.

Who have we done that with? Spence didn't want to be here, wood was sold at a very low cost, akpom wanted away etc, who have we got
Buybacks in for?

Spence we sold for profit, Gibson we sold for profit, Tav we sold for profit, Akpom we sold for profit, Wood we sold with a healthy sell on fee.

We’re definitely trying to buy people with potential resale values as it’s sustainable. It’ll take a few years to get going (if we allow the time for it to progress)

I agree with the villa comparison as it’s def the avenue they are going down with their academy but not the city one as I don’t think this their model at all I think it’s just a by product of having too many players that they simply can’t play.

I'd say more like Brentford than Villa/City.

Get young players in, develop them, sell them on.

Good model if we can make it work.
