Archer

Agree re getting in a proper ball winner. We definitely lack bite in midfield.
That Marvelous Nakamba has been a revelation for Luton on loan.

He is the type we could do with, albeit Luton wont give up easy on retaining him! .... Time to use those Villa links again

I will be amazed if Archer and Ramsey play for a club outside of the Premier League. At the very least If I was a promoted club i’d be camped outside bodymoor heath with my cheque book and pen. I will be surprised if there aren’t better offers than that though.

Ramsey could be more realistic in my eyes. 2 pretty big injuries this season for him.

He needs games, and the type of player he is its unlikely a potentially struggling PL side (trying to keep goals out/ solid etc) can offer him the same amount of games as a team (hopefully) pushing play offs/ promotion, who will be ultimately relying on creativity.

Archer is going to be a good Premiership player. It would be a massive coup if we got him back. I don't hold out much hope personally, and I reckon he will either be in the Villa squad or loaned to a Premier league side or another top level club.

Ramsey on the other hand - perhaps Villa will want him to have a full season of playing most weeks. But who knows really.

Amazed, really?

Ramsey has great potential, I'm a massive fan of his, but he will not be on any Premier League teams' radar at the moment as he has only had one stop start season in the Championship under his belt - there will plenty of similar players ahead of him in the queue from prospective clubs.

Archer will probably be on some Premier League clubs' radar, however because he's a striker, I can't see a bottom half club hanging their hat on him scoring enough goals to keep them up, with him being unproven at that level. So, then it comes down to Villa, do they want their player on the bench in a relegation dog fight, getting 20 mins here or there, or would their preference be for him to go to a club (hopefully) in with a shout of promotion, playing week in week out and playing some really good football whilst doing so - who they also have good links with through Aaron Danks to keep tabs on his development.

I like him as a player and he's red hot in front of goal - but I'm not sure he suits the way we play .. he can easily get bullied off the ball when it's played into him with back to goal and so if defenders sit in and cut off the space behind then he's effectively out of the game .. I think we'd suit a bigger guy up front to hold the ball up and then play it off to advancing midfielders - plus, it then also gives us the option of going more direct if we want to and also to attack crosses into the box. Not a Crooksy type .. but a more stronger "target" .. A Gyokeres type ..

Can't believe after 2 quiet games, against a rock solid defensive unit, that we are questioning Archer.

We won't be getting him back, and that's purely down to the fact he's too good for this division.

Anyone even suggesting we shouldn't take him back (if we were even offered the chance) need to give up watching football.

He's arguably the best striker in this division.

Chuba had 2 poor games against Coventry as well, do we sell him based on that?

Ridiculous some of the posts on this thread.

For me its better the devil you know.

As Boro know only too well, getting a decent striker in is the hardest and biggest gamble in recruitment, in my eyes it is anyway - look over the recent years the attempts and fails in that department we've had.

Archer more or less had a 1 in 2 ratio for us. Regardless of concerns over size, overall involvement in general play, for there to be a player out there who we know can provide that kind of goal output for us, I really cant think why anyone would look to elsewhere if Archer is available - Madness.

'advancing midfielders' was a problem for Archer at the end of the season, we were dominant in the middle third, well outnumbered in their box, noticeable when Jones or Giles were looking for players in dangerous areas, six yard box and running late into the box, it didn't happen the way it had been earlier in the season

Perhaps we missed Howson's short balls and space finding, Mowatt was tidy with the ball but the movement wasn't the same.

Yep amazed. I can easily see a Burnley, Sheffield for example wanting them both, maybe even Coventry too if promoted. I am sure others would too. Your point about game time and Danks is a good one and has merit, I hope Villa see things that way, but I think the chances are low. I agree Ramsey would be the most likely, but I wont be holding my breath, but i will cross my fingers.

Firstly I'd say that they're very young to be prem regular starters for any team, let alone one that will scrapping for every single point. Secondly it's worth remembering the three teams that go up, they can make one prem loan each.

Burnley will have their sites on bigger and better.

Sheff United will need more than those to survive and will have their sites on McAtee on loan.

If Cov go up then they already have Gyokeres.

I'd say only Luton will show an interest in Archer or Ramsey but may have their sites on other prem loans of a more proven variety.

I think Archer is class. He's also not the finished product.

His pace and finishing are top class, you can't teach that. That's why clubs will be interested.

His all round game needs work, he's got it within himself, we've seen it. But when teams sit deep he needs to find other ways to make an impact, because the space won't be there.

He can become anonymous, not just in some games but even in periods of games he's otherwise playing well in.

Nothing you wouldn't expect for a player of his age, it'll come with experience. But those rough edges do give us an outside chance of getting him back I think, as most prem sides would probably use him more of an impact sub at present.

Be better for his development to be playing every week as the main man, but we'll see.

Both Archer and Ramsey need game time to develop into top players, only the Championship will allow that at this stage in their career.

I quite liked the look of Norton-Cuffy on the right for Coventry, again not the finished product but he's going nowhere near the Arsenal first team. He certainly limited our effectiveness down the left and had the pace to attack Giles.

Said that to a mate at the match, the 2 home games he caught my eye too.

Didnt realise he was an Arsenal loan - makes it interesting.

19 years old, a kid.
19????? Looks like one of those Nigerians with a lost birth certificate 😳😳

Ramsey and Archer.......the way the PL is set up for instant success and player development is well down the smaller clubs list of priorities; they may struggle to get games and more importantly make an impact. The latter could seriously damage their development and that's why parent clubs look long and hard where sending their most promising players on loan.

Villa know we play football. We have an excellent behind the scenes set up. They will start if fit. Another year here to help their development suits all parties imo. Villa have little to lose, we have a lot to gain.🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Fingers crossed 🤞🤞
