Anyone on here have an Electric car?

I've just ordered a Model 3 Long Range. It is still saying expected delivery September, but I am not expecting it until October. I didn't spec the full self drive - I can't justify it in this country with all of the regulations.

Now I need to get a home charger installed before it arrives. SmallTown - did you get a Tesla charger or a third party and who did you get to install it?

Welcome to the weird work of waiting for Tesla deliveries! Apparently there’s a lot of ships coming over with cars on them so you may get it in September. Mine is coming on the first and that will be four months from when I ordered it.
I don’t actually have a charger installed as I get free charging in my apartment, they installed charging points for residents a year ago.

I Understand that you don’t get the government grant with a Tesla charger though. I’d have a look and see which ones you get a grant with.

I had a look at other chargers that do have the grant - you have to have it installed by an approved installer though and their installation costs are crazy. They clearly put their prices up because of the grant which defeats the point. I dont think my installation could be easier. The consumer box is inside the garage and I want the charger on the same wall.

Thanks for the info on deliveries. The order went in Friday (by the leasing company) but I havent actually got confirmation yet and it isnt showing up in my Tesla account yet.

It’ll never show up on your Tesla account. I’m the same, I leased and it goes on their account. Do a couple of things though. Ring your lease company and get a reservation number (Tesla RN) from them. Some lease firms, for whatever reason, delay actually submitting the reservation which will delay your delivery. Once you have your RN you can pester Tesla to find out where your car is. They are very hit and miss. Some guys won’t give you any info, I finally got through to someone who could tell em my vin and what ship I was on.
Just be away Tesla do things different from normal car companies. With them, you’d be assigned a car even if it wasn’t built. Tesla just ship a lot of cars of different specs and assign them to customers when they are in transit .

I've had a BMW i3 since September - I only need a small city type car, as I live central and its only my daughter and I most of the time. I absolutely love it and would never go back to a dino juice vehicle now. It's an amazing car to drive and such fun and really quick/nippy. Its got the dame 0-60 time as my previous car (Golf GTD), but it does it in almost total silence - it's quite an eerie experience at first!

I get between 150-190 miles around town (with a little bit of occasional motorway driving) on a full charge, depending on the time of year. I've only driven up to the north east in it once, from Poole where I live. Stopped twice to charge en-route - about 40 mins each time.

I do like the quirkiness of the i3. Sadly I need to do too much motorway driving to make it viable. Hence buying a model 3 performance.
It’s looking good for the EV now. Lots of people including petrol heads like myself are coming round to them. I hope the charging infrastructure can keep up. Although as you say, most people granny charge at home and don’t ever worry about range

Having just had a conversation with a few people can anybody make a recommendation - I am tempted to go electric. I currently have a BMW X3 diesel and would like something similar in electric. I tend to do local short journeys with a few trips up north thrown in a few time’s a year where I would need about a 300 mile range.

Any ideas / reccomendations?

There are few cars with such a range. Even a Tesla Model 3 long range and Kia e-niro would only make it on a good day. I wouldn't worry though, both would only require a quick top up/pee break. Other than that, you're talking one of the other Tesla's . nothing else has that range. It's not really necessary though. If you're doing infrequent long trips don't bother getting hung up on range.

Simlar to an X3: possibly a Jaguar iPace? Audit e-tron or Merc EQC.

If I was you I'd wait for the Polestar 2.

I have just signed up with Octopus Electricity to take advantage of the 5p/kw electricity between 00:30 - 04:30. It says I can enter a referral code from a friend to split £100 - does anybody have one?

Steer well clear of the I-Pace. JLR's battery technology is about 5 years behind everyone else. They were ahead of the curve at one point but then shelved their development in favour of bringing out a variety of similar shaped vehicles at similar prices with some slight adjustments in size. They now have to use their outdated battery tech as it's too costly to completely bin it, whilst everyone else moved on. JLR is a very confused company

I did wonder about the battery tech. It has the same size battery as a Tesla model S yet less power and much less range. Not great
