Anyone got one of those Peloton indoor bikes

I find it crazy that people would subscribe to sit on their exercise bike in their own house. Put some earphones in with music on.

Bought a brand new exercise bike from Aldi - yes Aldi. model - Crane Cost 75 quid. Looks just like a Peletron without the flashy gizmos.
You can put an iPad on its holder and it runs a free App. But its about your legs nowt else.

Its superb - very well german made - just google Aldi Crane

If you're not a cyclist then you'd possibly be able to justify it a bit more, but if you own a bike already then a smart trainer and a subscription to Zwift or similar makes far more sense.

Or just buy some mudguards and brave the winter ;)

This. Exactly my setup and it’s fantastic.

In principle
Japster - does the Atom/Swift link up automatically adjust the inclines?
Yes and no finny, most bikes/trainers that are 'smart trainers' will adjust the resistance based on what is required to climb or achieve a speed ... so Zwift will send the data to the trainer on what it requires powerwise to climb. This is all based on your own metrics, so FTP etc which you can test in the Wattbike hub and then it will be saved for future training.

Only the devices such as the Wahoo Kickr climb with a Wahoo Kickr will give you the real feel of resistance plus climbing. I would say that the climbing part isn't really required, as long as the resistance is increased then its fine.

I have a Wattbike trainer which is not a smart trainer, so I have to adjust the resistance manually ... but I train to specific intervals rather than use Zwift, so its fine for me.

Cheers fella - currently I've got the Bkool smart trainer and use Bkool software. It does automatically replicate the incline for climbs which is pretty good.
Just finding it a bit of a pain and looking at other options. Of all those suggested the Atom looks favourite.
The feedback about Peloton is really useful - there is something 'not quite right' (esp with the price).
I know a few people who have recommended the Atom personally but - they all get slaughtered on Trustpilot although there are fewer complaints about the atom.

(y) I have a few mates with the Atom and they really like them. I'd class one as a casual and other two as serious ... one uses Zwift and the other two use the Wattbike hub. I had only tried the Pro model before as my (ex) coach used it for testing and I loved it ... comfort power and pedal smoothness ... plus I could sprint without it feeling like I was going to snap something ... so I bought the trainer as it was a decent price and I can't put out 2500w! Wattbike are involved in the pro fitness market and cycling ... Peleton is a consumer product only ... yes the Atom is aimed at this market but they already have the expertise in the pro fitness market which is used in the Atom.

I can see myself swapping or buying an Atom ... my Mrs uses the Wattike 5 times a week and I think she would benefit from the Atom more than me. I even paired up my Wahoo Elment bolt so I can follow my training peaks sessions, so I get speed power and cadence.

Haha - I’m on my Bkool simulator every other day now. It is behaving itself too - was really playing up before.
Mate has the peloton he is really giving it some hammer

I would love one, but the cost is just ridiculous especially with the subscription, but I can absolutely see the use case even before now. I did some reading about the other solutions mentioned in this thread and other alternatives out there and they all seem to have some downsides.

Bkool have stopped making the hardware and are now focussed on software only - you might be able to pick up a Pro2 reasonably cheeky.
I’ve got quite a routine now
On a weekend I do a climb of over 1000m
Then twice a week I do couple of medium rides of around 30km - they are quite lumpy

Stick a film on Netflix and away

Just buy a road bike, once you've tried it you'll be hooked.

Far cheaper, you'll see a bit of the countryside and you get to wear lycra in public without being arrested.

Jonny - we ain’t supposed to be out on our bikes and, I suspect, in the next day or two the ban will become formal - hence the current discussion

I use Zwift with a Tacx, but Mrs Jumpers who has been to a number of live Peloton classes in NYC, and is desperately missing Soul Cycle from our time in San Francisco is wanting to order one now we're confined to our homes.

Our summer house at the bottom of the garden is going to stink with two sweating cyclists in there at once.

Haha - would never have happened on the old site.
Still not sure how I feel about going out - I don’t wanna be that guy who takes up a hospital bed

I’ve got a high end road bike already, it’s just no good to me unless I have a day off or a weekend, I work too long and travel too far midweek to have time for gearing up, riding out etc. Go out on it when I can and have been at the weekend.

I think you’re still allowed to be on bikes although I wouldn’t go out with anyone else personally. Odds of you having an injury requiring hospitalisation is very small, and that could happen around the house.

I’d be ok with a solution that I can build myself, but would want a way to see metrics on the screen, but dont want to buy a bike to go on a turbo trainer nor mess around putting mine on/off the TT. Wouldn’t mind paying a subscription service.

It is a pain Fair - but they are remarkable easy to clip them in/out.
Biggest change tho is best to have a training tyre - then you have to change that when you go out - much bigger pain.
You get all your key metrics on screen if you have the right kit (heart metre, power pedals etc)
