Anyone go sea fishing?

I've been going fishing since I was young but only freshwater and about to begin a new challenge of having a go on the beaches (when lockdown permits).

Any tips you would like to share?

Used to go on the boats off Whitby quite a bit but when they're not biting 8 hours in the freezing cold is no fun!
Tried beach fishing UK as well but you're lucky to get one or two fish a session and more often than not blank out.

I still fish but do it in warmer climates where you will always bag up off the boats. Caught some cracking fish over the years, everything from big Tuna to Baracuda, Sharks, Angel Sharks, Stingrays, Kingfish and Giant Grouper.
Also had some good fish off the rocks overseas as well.

Just too many other things to do to waste a full day in the UK which is pretty much fished out.

When I was younger me and a mate use to go off the beaches at Saltburn and Runswick Bay, with the odd trip up to Blackhall. Every weekend we would get wrapped up, pack the car up and stand out in the cold all night.

All I can say is, if Jesus was relying on me for fish, he would have been one short.

On another note - I am going to get rid of a load of sea fishing rods. Some of them belonged to my brother in law and they have been stuck in the garage for years now. I am not sure what state they are in, but you are more than happy to have them - I will take some photos of them and message you on here if you are interested.

I won't be offended if you say no.

That's a really kind offer but I've just bought new gear, thank you though!

Manage your expectations, sea fishing especially from the beach is the pits compared to freshwater fishing. Rays and Hounds in the summer are a good target, Plaice in the Spring but the Cod are so few and far between winter is awful. February is the worst month of the year, it’s pin Whiting and Rockling. Boat fishing can be good but it’s not cheap and I’ve still had days where I’ve caught nothing. I sea fish as I’m a species hunter but I couldn’t just sea fish and do nothing else, I’m waiting for late February and the Plaice to turn up down here before I go again. I love my Halibut fishing in Norway.

Boat Fishing out of Hartlepool about 35 years ago and beach-casting a few times in Norfolk.(y)

Used to go Bass, Pollock, Mackerel and Cod fishing. Usually following schools of smaller fish, but just as tasty! Occasionally caught grey mullet, which were difficult with their soft lips. Bit of a 'muddy' taste.
