Anyone ever been published?

Published PhD in 2010, still not sure if it was a waste of time but at least it trains you to think analytically and write concisely. Always enjoyed the writing process. Have to be sure I want a piece of work in the public domain, though. That's a different matter.

I've had couple of articles published in professional journals, but they're fairly low level: guides to CPR for student nurses etc.

I was awarded my PhD earlier this year, so I'm in the British Library now, and I'm hoping to get some higher level articles published from that. I'm meant to be working on one right now..
Are you local? FH I worked in Cardiology for 40 yrs our paths may have crossed.

Worked at Freeman from 2001-2015 in various cardio roles.
Based at university now.

I tend to hear about it if there are other Boro fans up here!
Only JCUH for me. Visited Freemans many times back in the day with patients before we became a Cardio Unit

Without being pedantic of course and saying everything you post online is a publication.

Any fiction/nonfiction/scientific journals/newspaper columns... anything?

If so, what?
I had a monthly column in the Gazette for about 6 or 7 years and have been punished on the Huffington Post website multiple times. I and a few non fiction books on Kindle under pen names but they're not that great (was when you could game the KDP system by writing a 10 page book and get paid out for full book price by having 10% of the pages read). And I wrote content as a job for different websites for years as well, but I don't really count that.

I've always wanted to write a novel, like I think everyone does, but it just takes far too long! I start Nanowrimo every year but never finish it.

Yeah, twice but very small time. Once in a Sci-Fi magazine (in Canada) a short story, and a bit about my grandad made it on to the Western Front Association website.
a photo I took ended up in Bella too - without my permission, mention, or any money 😂
very small time really, but writing was my hobby at the time.

Words - no

Music - yes. I've 5 instrumental albums out that get used on telly/internet. Lets just say it's a sideline and will never make me a millionaire.
One of my instrumental recordings is on a computer game somewhere. I should ask what game it is - I never have; it was not my best work imho 😂

Very cool that.

Is there much money in making royalty-free stock music for online vids?

Every YouTube vid seems to use the same jangly ukulele tune and there’s only a handful of stock sites (that I’m aware of, anyway). You hear the same instrumental backgrounds again and again. I thought it might be a profitable little sideline since the content boom of a few years ago.

I was a journo for a short time so had stuff published in Chronicle, Journal and Geeeezette.

Following that my dissertation was picked up and published in an American business mag.
Since then a letter in The Times

My son has just written a book and is now touting it to publishers. I do hope he cracks it.

Most deals you get with publishers are 50/50, you provide the music, they place it on tv or online and find the clients. It's not as lucrative as it used to be and you're up against a multitude of others trying to get thir music out there, although I'm sure if its being used on youtube or tik tok constantly you'll get a decent kick back.
