Anyone else struggling to be bothered about this season.

I’m struggling with the disruption to life since lockdown full stop, I’ve documented that on here and on the old board. For which I took dogs abuse at a time when I was massively struggling.
Colin is definitely the best man for the job at the moment but he’s surely not the long term answer. I don’t know who is though....we’ve lost our way as a club.

Anyway whilst I can’t set foot inside the riverside (or indeed any football ground) to support the mighty Boro and I’ve got to pay a tenner for a stream as the only way to see a Middlesbrough game, it’ll never be right and I’ll feel completely detached and removed from it all.
Sad but true. Sorry.

I think more people are struggling with the current situation than we will ever know.

£150+ish to watch every away game (midweek ones are free). I’d have spent more than that going to one away game last season (ticket/train/booze/possibly hotel etc).

Certainly not suggesting this way is better, far from it, and appreciate some people are financially worse off now, but I don’t really have a major issue with the price of streaming an away match that there’s no other way of watching.

No need to apologies, I'm sure you're not the only one to feel like this, and I too have felt in a similar position on the odd occasion, even when Boro aren't playing. I am constantly on edge that football will be taken away from us again out of nowhere.

I'm sure you won't receive any abuse on here if you want to vent about feeling frustrated with lockdown, especially with the coming months. We are all in the same position. (y)

People gave you dog's abuse when you were struggling?! What the f*** is wrong with people? Really ***ed off to hear this.

I just maintain belief tha we will find a way to watch the game at the Riverside safely and I can travel 300+ mile round trip in rain, snow, sunshine, wind, fog and schitt to watch home games again(y)
I can once again buy chips an gravy from the mackem chip van near the navvy - meet the lads in the pub and have a craic with the crew on the way up.......and on the way back.

it is early days ... a glance after 3 games is not a good look - it shows the high flyers ( 6-9 points from 9 ) and the strugglers (2 - 0 points ) so as been bothered about the new season well yes I am but only to avoid relegation , hope NW can morph into a miricle worker

I am more than up for this season. It certainly is different, but Trying to maintain my intensity. If we can get Zohore in and be fortunate with injuries I think the play offs are within our grasp. #COB

We look better on the pitch and the signings are an upgrade on last season. We have a better manager so I guess I'm slightly more excited. Its not a push for the playoffs I'm mad for but more so more goals.... Its been a while. That said 2 in 3 league games isn't ideal😂

It's not the football I miss. Its everything thing around it and the whole social side. Going to the pub at 1200/watching the 1230 game with a few beers/ Boro game then back to the pub for 1730 TV game. All finished off with a curry with mates.

Going online and watching a streamed Boro game in my living room simply don't cut it. The scary thing is that it could be next season before things get 'better' 😕

It's not just Boro. I could normally happily watch back to back random prem games on sky. I just flick channels as no crowds isn't the same. The football is slightly 'strange'.
Try being an exile, we've missed all that for decades....

Warnock should of been the choice when we hired Monk. If we could back Warnock financially like we backed Monk he would have the league won by Xmas.

Gibson is very reactive, he went with the open and attacking Monk after the negative and defensive Karanka and then the young Woodgate after the dinosaur Pulis. It’s almost as if he always does the complete opposite of the last manager which is probably why we have so many square pegs in round holes. We have such a unbalanced squad with players and attributes for every formation going but no proper identity because they were all bought by different managers with different styles.

I already get the impression Warnock is done after this year and I wouldn’t blame him. We won’t be any where near promotion or relegation and that’s probably good enough for Gibson. Wish we could of got Warnock a few years ago and actually had a few quid to spend. No manager will get more out of a squad than Warnock but I don’t think he will be able to deliver anything more than stability with the time and funds he has to work with. Boro will be a footnote on his otherwise very impressive CV when he retires, neither a disaster or one of his many fairytale successes. We were 100% going down last year until he saved us though.
You really think that it will be 'good enough ' for the Chairman? I'm sure he would love to be flying in the prem too!

My words also, I spoke on here after Karanka had gone, we had money in the bank & a base of players within the squad
NW had to be the next manager to take us forward & then wham, Gibbo disappointed me when announced Monk was to be given the job & the rest is history

I'm bothered about this season, quite the opposite of last season when I thought all football should have been ended as one, not different leagues as happened, but that's gone & history

I look forward to each Boro match & watch on stream, if the government decided football had to stop tomorrow until a virus was found then fine, I would accept it

Boro apart, not interested in watching any other teams playing though

you could argue that now is the time to really get behind the club because every little kid is suffering and as adults we need to keep their hopes alive that the game will soon return back to normal -- just as life will. These are strange times for everyone of course but strength comes from the community that we've built around Middlesbrough FC-- so please even it seems like it's not worth it we need to try to stick together and keep morale from falling into the gutter. Stay positive as best as you can for the sake of the kids.

I'm feeling a real disconnect from Boro at the moment if I'm going to be honest. I've only seen one game so far this season and that was the Watford game. I'm really missing not being able to go to games.

Obviously still hope we can do well this season. It would be amazing if we're back in the Premier League by the time we're attending games again but I know it's unlikely.

Good thread this and it’s interesting to read how others are finding it.

I think survival is the name of the game for a lot of clubs just now and that puts a different perspective on ambitions.

I can’t wait to be back in the Riverside but with the streaming I’m enjoying watching every match.

The other thing I’m doing is having a couple of beers whilst watching in the back room because I‘m not driving and I could get very used to that. Watching the Boro has always been a family thing for me and has never involved drinking before or after the match.

As for the team, I think we look solid, I wouldn’t write us off yet.
If NW brings in the players he wants then I'm sure we'll have a cracking season, though if the news about Hall is true, then our next signing will be a CH & that will, unfortunately, have us just standing still, until Hall, who I like, returns

I am actually a bit of an exile. I live on the south coast for over 23 years (due to work).

I still try to attended 15-20 games a season. I admit over half of those would be away games. I am 'lucky' I get most weekends off.

I guess football is so much more than just attending the 90mins for me. I don't live in Boro anymore so it's almost a reason to meet up with friends and family. This covid has definitely derailed that. My parents are 82 and 78 so only been up north twice to see them since March😕.

I guess no football is the very least of our 'issues'. I would rather have it on TV than nothing at all. I just don't quiet feel the same about it.

I actually don't think the £10 is that bad. I could spend that going into town on parking or fast food etc. It will clearly add up over a season but its a fraction of what I'd spend going to games on petrol and tickets (could easily be £100+ where I live).

Having been to a game or two a week for the last month I've seen plenty of it but my interest in TV football and the game away from local football has dipped.

One thing that has been noticeable is the subdued mood of those attending.

Yesterday I went up to Ashington. No bar though you could buy beer and soft drinks from a hatch. No canteen but hot food and drink available from a van.

The wearing of masks throughout the game was introduced yesterday and it keeps the noise down, the high wind was very audible though, it was a wild day.

Football isn't the enjoyable experience it was pre Covid. It's becoming a chore, which isn't good for attendance figures.

I'm at a stage in life where I'm generally not bothered about results. I feel more connected with the Boro though this year in that they send me a link for each games highlights and so I see the best ten minutes of action from each game. That's great as I've lived abroad for most of the last few years and have only seen us thirty times or so in total in the past ten years. There's bound to be a disconnect there but I appreciate whoever does the media reaching out to fans like me.

As for this season, my plan is to tick off thirty new grounds. I've done six in Moscow in the last six weeks and hope to get to a few Northern league ones at Christmas. If covid drifts away I'll conclude the season in Hungary for the euros, but at the moment that seems like very wishful thinking.
