I’ve been using cartridge razors for 20 years but I’m thinking of giving a single blade safety razor a go, I’m wondering what people’s thoughts on this shave is and if anybody has a decent handle to recommend?

cheers gang

Been off cartridge razors since last August, and I'm never going back.
So much more environmentaly friendly and cost effective... got a Parker 98R (3 piece) and a Parker 76r (butterfly), reasonably priced and give good shaves. Have two saloon packs (Astras and Derby Premium).. 200 blades and I usually get 3-4 shaves from 1 blade.

Despite not having had a full shave for ages now, my Futur still sees plenty of action taking care of the verges of my beard.

Yep. 1 ingrowing hair in 2 years as opposed to 1 a week with cartridge types. I switched cos I felt the quality of the cartridge blades was declining massively.

Just ordered an Edwin Jagger DE89, seems like a decent place to start for a novice. Weirdly excited to try it!

I shave with a Merkur 38C. It took a bit of practice to get the hang of it, particularly under the nose, but I manage fine with it now and I quite relish the faff on with blades. I'm currently using Rapira blades which at only 5p each I change out after every second shave.

I have one of these, and must have paid for it many times over through the cheapness of new blades.

If you do a search on "fmttm double edge shaving" then it'll take you to a thread on the old board which should help.

That's the model I have. When it arrived I thought they'd sent me a car part. A hefty unit in a big tin box. And yes, when you can buy 100 Derby blades for a few quid it quickly pays for itself and it cuts down on all the plastic that cartridges use.

I read a similar post on here a few years ago which lead me to get a safety razor...got a decent one and a box of blades...which looks like It'll last me FOREVER....Oh, and it does a grand job as well ( i got ripped of by the marketing man for years with his '36 blade, lube strip' nonesence)

On the recommendation of Borodrew on the other site, I got a 1kg block of Cella shaving soap. It's like shaving with soap that smells of Disaronno :), and it's going to last for a long time.
