Anybody else not get excited to watch England?

International football has changed massively over the last 10/20 years and continues to do so. More countries particularly in 'Europe', and now the tournaments want just about every country to qualify which makes the qualifiers more and more meaningless - you have to be pretty bad to not qualify for a major tournament. Now they want extra rounds in the actual tournaments, it will only get 'exciting' from the last 16/QF onwards. Not sure if this is really beneficial for the sport overall.

I disagree, most of us have a good chance of seeing England win a tournament. The thing holding us back in the past was our lack of technical players, now we have a good steady supply line of players with ability. Of course we had good players in the past, but we can compete now with most in possession of the ball. We're not relying on bravery and effort anymore.
I think we had one of the best squads at the last World Cup and we'll no doubt have one of the best at the upcoming Euros. I do feel mentality is always going to prevent us from taking that one step further though in a tournament and actually achieving something. Best example I can give is that I knew Kane was going to miss that penalty vs France before he'd even hit it.

I admit, I find it strange that many England fans refuse to support the team. The Welsh and the Scottish passionately get behind their team (if they manage to qualify) even though they know they're unlikely to make it out of the group stage. Fair enough, expectations are much lower for them but they show us up really in terms of passion and support.

I think it's been understandable that fans have found it difficult to connect with England teams of the past, particularly during the "golden generation" era but I don't really find any of the current crop to be unlikeable, and we have a manager who is well respected within the game and a club legend, so I'm still unsure why some seem to feel this deep-seated resentment towards England.

I know what you're saying, but I think it was just one one of those things with Kane. 2nd penalty and against his team mate. Probably regrets not just smacking it down the middle. I thought overall the mentality was spot on vs France and we controlled the game despite going behind early

Agree I find it strange the insistence on not supporting England. Ultimately you're just doing yourself out a bit of excitement (sometimes) . If you're not bothered you're not bothered I suppose, but i don't get it, but I love big tournaments

Not interested in England until it's a the WC or Euro's, don't care about qualifiers, I expect qualification against mostly garbage football nations.

First time ever that I've really not been bothered at all by the upcoming England matches.

I usually like the break, but it's so enjoyable watching Boro right now that I just want to fast forward to Huddersfield.
Me too…. I’m so bored already! Don’t even know when England play or who they play (!) going to be a long 2 weeks
What will we do after 8th May when we go up in the automatic places 🤔🤷‍♂️

To be fair, despite my first answer, my mindset will probably change when the teamsheet is announced on Thursday.

I do tend to get very invested in England when it kicks off.

It took me a week to get back in to a Boro mindset after the end of the World Cup, though that was partly because of the unique circumstance of the tournament occurring during the season and the aftermath of that atrocious refereeing in our match against France.

I like watching England when we are doing well but don't get the feelings I get when Boro are doing well.
It was fantastic when I watched us win the world cup in 66 but nothing like how I felt when Boro won the CC in Cardiff.

Have always loved tournaments and always will, and I do care about England doing well in them.

I used to get excited about qualifiers in the aftermath of USA 94 when it looked so easy not to qualify, the 0-0 in Rome and the 2-2 with Greece etc. Still irks that we didn’t get to Euro 08. Nowadays the tournaments have so many places available it’s almost unthinkable not to qualify, so I usually “half watch” them.

Never worried too much about friendlies, might watch if I remember.

By the end of the disastrous 2012-2016 Hodgson era my interest had totally waned. Southgate has won me back and at least re-established us as a top 5 side in the world. I think we have a chance in Germany too.

Lots of you will be firmly on the bandwagon when we finally win a trophy.😁
