Ants

Little beggars are all over our garden and patio, what's the best way to convince them to move out?

Ant Stop works on black ants.
a teaspoonful near a nest gets taken back and wipes out the lot in a few hours.
Needs to be repeated every 6 weeks or so for a while
Red ants seem more resilient. Any advice welcome

When we are in France we have a beer fridge in the awning and this also attracts the little blighters. I put one of these down under the fridge at the start of the holidays and it seems to do the trick.

I also had them in my workshop last year and put one down near their path, and again they all disappeared.

Another vote for Antstop. Instant result for me

I've used this one when we had them near our front door. They also started to find their way into our dining room. Marching around in their perfect little lines, all clever n that.
This got rid of them in a few days though. Put it where they are most prevelent and the workers will unwittingly take the poison back to the nest.
Not so clever after all.

2 years ago I was having major issues with the little b***ds outside and inside , powder and those bait stations weren’t stopping them entirely so used Killline and had no issues until a few weeks back so I got them back for a second time round. Pretty sure I’ve got a huge nest under the patio.

They use Phephra CS on the patio and 1ml formidor gel in the feeders, no issues at all since. Pricey but worth it as the missus was going nuts at me.

I read somewhere once that using those Milton baby bottle sterilizing tablets dissolved in warm water then sprayed onto the ants with a garden a sprayer does the job. Apparently it changes their 'scent' so the ants in the nest and those who get sprayed get into a big fight and eventually decimate the nest with repeat treatments.

Seems a bit of a nasty way to do it but no worse than the poisons.

Antstop is brilliant. We've had a nest under the house before with flying ants literally coming out of the walls. But antstop always works.

Ant powder is a contact poison which will kill the ones or touches but not the nest, if you cover the nest in it they'll move the nest to somewhere nearby.

What you need is a poison that they take back to the nest with the aim that the queen and rest of nest eat it as part of their food supply

You can buy these as above or you can make your own with borax and honey/sugar in jam jars with cotton wool and holes poked in the lids

You can buy the bait stations which are handy but all seem quite expensive now, or you can get ant stop granules.

We put the granules down now and then and make borax traps
