Another about to go under?

So why did clubs go to the wall before sky?

The football clubs themselves voted for sky over ITV, of which Oldham had a vote, being in the first season on the Premiership.

It has got so much worse since Sky - look at the pittance the Football League agreed to ........ It would be fair to say that I would love to see them go out of business.

It hasn't got worse though. The problem is that teams outside the premier league are paying their players more than they bring in in revenue. They are taking risks that they shouldn't be taking. That isn't Sky's fault. It does create a 2 tier system but teams like Oldham should be living within their means. Championship teams are most affected because they can gamble on being in debt with a chance of reaching those increased revenues. There is a potential reward to go along with the risk. Oldham aren't going to get there any time soon so should be concentrating on sustainability. It's bad management to blame.

The owners behaving irresponsibly have a lot of the blame, the footballers demanding billy big potato wages at the lower levels also creates a problem and then theres the fans with big expectations of their clubs...

you just have to see the posts on these forums at transfer deadline days...

Then the big clubs not re investing their profits into grass roots football is stifling the competition...

That is only part of the story. Agreed that clubs need to live within their means, but when all the money is being siphoned into the Premier League, it doesn't leave anything to go round the rest.

I agree that the imbalance between the riches of the PL and the rest of the League structure is far too much. It creates this gambling culture.

Whilst you can blame the clubs for being reckless, fans and thus the owners are desperate for success and take desperate measures with their clubs futures.

The rest of the football clubs should resign from the PL & FA leagues & let the 6 major clubs form their own league, would never happen mind

What's happening more regularly in league one and two now mirrors what's been happening in non-league over the last 20 years. I can see it becoming more of a regular thing in the Championship as clubs continue to chase the premier dream, probably re balance in about twenty years when the pyramid is abandoned and we acknowledge that the game played by the super clubs is a different game from the one us older chaps fell in love with.
