Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston has written to new Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak highlighting the benefits of moving treasury jobs to "the best place on earth."

A recent Sunday Times article told how the new Chancellor was potentially considering relocating some of its operation to Teesside to help rebalance the UK economy.

In response Mr Preston has moved quickly to urge Mr Sunak to consider the merits of Middlesbrough in any proposals which could be brought forward.
Surely, it has got to be worth a go - Here is the letter.

I love Middlesbrough dearly, but to describe it as "the best place on earth" is ridiculous hyperbole and makes Preston look an ever bigger idiot than he already does.

His ridiculous Twitter posts remind me of this:-

The first sentence is over the top Hyperbole but I thought the rest of the letter was good selling. Yes it's over the top but you're not going o say it's a shiphole now are you?

There's promotion and there's ridiculous claims that have no substance.

Would "the best place on earth" have ridiculous levels of child poverty, mental health issues, and addiction problems. Would it have foodbank collections at the local football ground, would it have the local mayor banning homelessness in the town center.

He invalidates any of his other points with his ridiculous over the top claims.

I think the point is it COULD be better. It DOES have beautiful scenery around, it DOES have amazingly hard working and friendly people, it DOES have an abundance of natural resources. With the right investment it could be great at least. Not the best on earth of course but a good place to be.

Can people on here read! He did not say Middlesbrough is the best place on earth he said;
"As you well know, the Middlesbrough area is literally the best place in the world to base a business or organisation. '
He then went on to give reasons why.

Different to the interpretations being made here whether you agree with him or not.

Another post regarding Andy Preston. Why do you never post any announcements from Ben Houchen. His announcements lately and another yesterday are a lot bigger than this

Because Houchen announcements are nothing announcements. He just announces stuff that the area has been working on for years and years and are still years away from doing it.

And yet he chooses not to live in Middlesbrough
